Default Template File requires migrating, steps followed and error persists.

I have updated all templates to be in line with company defaults. When I open a new drawing it opens the Company template (Standard.idw) with no issues.

However when I try to create a drawing from an Assembly or a Part (.iam , .ipt) the default template is unavailable. I get the following error message.

I have followed the steps, saving the .idw file as a template (and using a simple Save As) and replacing the default .idw file in the file location indicated in the "new" dialogue box.

Before replacing the default .idw file this problem was non existent. .idw opened from a part using Inventors default standard from .ipt or .iam without issue.  It only began to happen once the default .idw was replaced in the existing templates file location. No other member of staff having issue, all using same files and file locations.

Summary: Company Standard.idw opens with no issues when creating a new drawing but when creating a drawing from a .iam or .ipt I receive the error messages shown above and drawing fails to open, following steps mentioned in error box does not resolve issue.

I don't usually do that kind of workflow (creating a drawing directly from IDW/IPT) but trying to recreate your scenario.

I think you can just change the default template folder on your IPJ (or application options, whichever is your setting is)

from

C:\Users\Public\Documents\Autodesk\Inventor 2024\Templates

 to

C:\Users\Public\Documents\Autodesk\Inventor 2024\Templates\en-US

what you're encountering might be: it is trying to find/selecting the Standard.idw in "C:\Users\Public\Documents\Autodesk\Inventor 2024\Templates" and not the ones in the "en-US" subfolder

Hi! I think you want to make sure the Styles Library is already migrated. Please make a copy of the existing Styles Library. Then use Styles Library Manager to migrate the library.

Many thanks!

@johnsonshiue Hi thanks for your response, I have opened Styles Library Manager but do not see anything regarding template migration. I have also only ever been on one version on inventor which is common with all colleagues versions.

Do I need to just Migrate all of the different style types over? Do I migrate them into the same location?

Thank you for your help!

Hi Liam,

Style Library Manager helps migrate standards and styles from previous releases to the current release. You don't need to migrate current standards and styles (otherwise, it is a bug). If the standards and styles were last saved in 2023 or earlier releases, please make a backup copy and use Style Library Manager to migrate them.

Please feel free to share the \Design Data\ folder and the template files with me directly at [email protected].

I would like to understand the issue better.

Many thanks!
