Default representation

Hello

Every time I place a components, it's in master rep.

Every time a component in default rep is edited, it reverts back to master rep.

Every time a sketch in a default rep component is edited, the parent components revert back to master rep.

By default, I only want to work with default rep. Which is what default means, it means first choice.

Where is the setting to always place components in default rep?

Where is the setting to not change reps after editing?

Inventor Professional 2021 with Vault Basic 2021.

Check out the "File Open Options" dialogue box in the "Open" command dialogue box (at the bottom). It's not in Application Options or Document Settings; it's only here.

Unfortunately, this setting does not work, for me.

I pick a part / assembly to place

I click Options... first

I choose the settings I want, i.e. default for all. I click OK.

I click Open, it opens the part / assembly

It opens in master representation...

I pick a different part / assembly to open

The setting in Options... resets to master, so what now?

It's very simple, but apparently, there is no one here willing to understand. So I'll explain again...

I always want to open and place components in the default rep by default.

This means that I don't want to change rep each time before or after placing.

This means it should always be on default when I open.

If it's not clear now, I'll say it one more time: always open in DEFAULT REP. not master, not last active, not all visible, not nothing visible.

I'm having trouble to understand why this is so hard? Why isn't there a setting that works, instead of workarounds that don't work?

How come everyone is fine with this? Do you all only work with master reps?

Hi Matthijs,

The behavior does not sound right to me. If you change the setting as Mitchell mentioned above, it should work. Please share a video recording showing the behavior. Or share the Inventor files in zip. I would like to understand the behavior better.

I also noticed Inventor has a lot of unwanted behaviour.

Hi! Just out of my curiosity, does this particular iam file have "Default" design view? If yes, please share the files in zip with me ([email protected]) directly. I would like to understand the behavior better.

Hi  Have similar problem in Inventor 2026  Previous verison 2024 does not have this.  File open settings are  Design View "Last active"  but  everytime when i open another file and close it  then other  opened files go back in "Default" Viev representation.  but it should be "last active" design view.
