Yes you can but not where you're showing it.   In the filename column of your family table create an expression that does it.   See this article for more details:

(expression information is covered at the end of the article)

But the main interest, is that all users, when they are creating the part, can give it a custom name.

Then when you place from content center select the place as custom

Hello Mark,

i have similar question. We have Butterfly valves in Inventor 2015 CC library. In our construction we are using almost the same type of valves, example 40

in one system. I created CC libraries and I want to give “String custom option” in part (in CC) to give every part custom TAG Number by placing the part in assembly. TAG Number is helping to find the part in PID drawing.

Please look on attached picture. Could you help me to solve this problem? I don’t want to place as custom every part.

Best regards

Have you tried going into the family table and making the column there, and then going back in the editor, right clicking and properly setting up the parameters that column maps to?

Yes it would be nice to have the P&ID tags attached to the valve but that means you would need to create a entry in the content center for each tag that you need.  Meaning its not possible to create a single valve in content center and then have a custom/prompted entry for each tag you need.

However when I use to support routed system models in the past we would rename the broswer name of the content center component (or valve) as the tag name.  I'm also going to tag @cbenner to see if he has other ideas about this.

I've never found a way to get a P&ID tag into Content Center, since the tag number will be different every time I use that valve.  I simply use a column in my parts list where I manually enter the tag information form my P&ID.  You could create a custom iproperty at the part level, but then you would have to place each and every valve "as custom" and modify that iproperty.  That just seems like a lot of work.

Hello Mark , Chris,

It already working in my CC library. TAG Number is not only number. TAG by us contains Letter and number together. Example: TAG : AV236
I already solve the problem with number. It is really helping to work faster. Then I place one time Valve from CC, then I copy this part 20 times. Then by "change size" I can change the number. Inventor is creating new part with new TAG Number.

Valve 1.jpg

Problem ist in Letters. I can't create custom column to write letters only numbers.

Valve 2.jpg

Maybe you know how to solve this problem ?

Hello

Of Course NO. It will take too much time. It is set ,the same like screws. I don't need to open everytime CC browser. Every part is exceptional, because File name contains TAG Number. The part remembers the last TAG name so by update we don't have any problem with TAG Number (it don't change to default).

My question is , can we create custom string parameter in CC for the part , where we can use Letters.

Best regards

Christopher

I really have no idea, but I doubt that can be done.  I would be very interested in seeing how you set up your family table, and parts for this.  Looks like you're doing something I've never even tried.  You might be writing the book on this one.  🙂
