Cable & Harness Ribbon Bend Radius

Anonymous

Whenever I create ribbon cables, it always takes so long because I have a hard time getting the cable to represent in the rendered mode because it is saying the bend radius is too tight. Is there a way to turn off the "bend radius" requirement. I am not too concerned with the bend radius as it is only for visualization purposes.

yeah.. Autodesk just needs to do some work on C&H to improve its ability to sweep without so many issues..

Like I said in this or your other post.. Its currently a pain in the arse to route wires/cables and have them sweep properly without huge sweeping paths..

Their "sweep function" is just inferior really..

Looking at the assembly from the top view - shouldn't all of the points be in a straight line from that view?

Its just a great example to show just how inferior the program really is at doing these sweeps and how annoying it can be..

Even when greatly simplified and no sharp bends at all and less points it still fails to render..

Hi Kevin, Many thanks for providing the example! It does look like the Ribbon cable path causes the sweep to fail in rendered mode. the path does not look too complicated. I will follow up with the project team and see what we can do here. Thanks again!

Hi Kevin,

This is indeed a bug. It should work. But, I cannot say when it will be fixed. Please feel free to contact Autodesk Product Support and report a case.

Many thanks!

Hi,

To make this easier it would most likely make a good enhancement request for the InventorIdeas station

What you can see in the returning files is I made some modification to the connector with the pins so I could add points to the ribbon cable and move them. This is a little time consuming and I'm not sure it would be a real-world length for the ribbon but give it a look.

aka.. Don't hold your breath..

Its going to continue to be inferior for a LONG..LONG time..

We haven't seen any improvements to C&H in YEARS.

Seems there just aren't enough users for Autodesk to justify any time spent on it..

In fact I'm fairly sure ribbon cable enhancement was the last one and that was what ~10 years ago?
