Autodesk Inventor won't run on Windows 10 without a HotFix

Anonymous

I have Autodesk Inventor Professional 2012 that was part of my licensed Autodesk Ultamite Product Design Suite 2012 that Have had working on my Windows 7 computer.  I retired this last year but I still work PT on some projects that I worked on FT.  I recently installed Windows 10 onto my computer.  All the rest of the programs from Autodesk Ultimate Product DesignSuite 2012 I have been able to get to work on the new Windows 10, but when I tried to start Autodesk Inventor Professional 2012, I got an error message "The application is unable to start correctly (0xc0000142). Click OK to close the aapplication  As I said it worked perfectly before on Windows 7.  I tried to reinstall over the old program, Reinstall Fix the Program, and uninstall old program and reinstall new,  same error code.  I hope that enought others have the same problem so that Autodesk can maybe write a Hotfix.  Now that I am retired from Full Time, I can't afford to get a new license for Inventor that I will probably only use for a couple years at most.  the fix from Autodesk for windows 8.1 doesn't help because then it doesn't see Invenor at all installed, even though it theoretically is.

Thank you for any help in this matter,  No one locally can help me because most other companies around use SolidWorks.

Steven,

This is most likely the same problem that existed with 2012 on win8.1 - we don't officially support 2012 on win10 but please try the workaround for win8.1:

See http://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/inventor-products/downloads/caas/downloads/content/hotfix-inve...

Ensure to follow the manual re-registration instructions at the end of http://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/inventor-products/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticl...

Hope this helps,

Chris

Downgrade to Windows 7..

ALWAYS check software requirements before upgrading your computer to a new OS.. Inventor 2012 is 4 years old now and Windows 10 just came out.. What did you expect...

Thank you to those who responded to this post especially to Xun Zhang <xun.zhang@autodesk.com who sent me a private email with the link for the correct fix which was :

http://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/inventor-products/downloads/caas/downloads/content/hotfix-inve...

When I tried to install this Hot Fix directly from AutoDesk's Support site myself, somehow the fix that tried to install didn't recognize my installation of Inventor to try to install to, but this linke did recognize my installation and went through with the Hot Fix which allowed Windows 10 to recognize my Inventor Professional 2012 as a Windows 7 Application which allows it to run as such.

Thank you again

Windows 10 Compubility Center says that Win 10 has full compubility with Autodesk Inventor 2012 (green mark). What did we wait in this case?

With best regards, Valery

That would be "Microsoft" stating "Autodesk software" is compatible...and while the folks at MS may believe so, the Autodesk folks have not certified Win10 for any Autodesk software.

Loaded Win 10 on my laptop, 2012 (that I use for one client) failed to launch.

I ran the Win 8.1 hot fix and all is now good.

Make sure that you have the latest graphics card drivers for your system. These can be downloaded from the manufactures website for your graphics card. The basic drivers that may have been installed my Microsoft when you system was updated are probably early versions.

If this dosen't correct the problem, navigate within Inventor to the Application Options>Hardware and change the settings from either Performance or Quality to Software Compatible and see if that corrects the issue.

If it's happening to both, Inventor and Acad, I would look at the graphics card drivers first.

Hi,

I have got the new update and settings in the graphics card and adjusted the settings in Inventor.
Unfortunately no result.
Is there any one who has a solution?

This is it:

https://knowledge.autodesk.com/search-result/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/Windows-10-support-for-A...

Unfortunately with 2012 products you are on your own. All you can do is install all the SP's, Updates and Hotfixes and follow the instructions for 2013 products and hope it works.

@t.cuppen

Can you show an image of the problem? If you tried to attach some images they are not showing up properly on here..

Are you using a 4k monitor or something with "uber-high" resolution?

Hi,

I now have all my programs running on win10.
The only thing what does not work is de part name (Inventor en Acad 2012) in the ribbon/header (with max screen activated).
Until we update our Autodesk software to a newer release i can live with that problem ....

You can always see the part names/numbers in your model browser (left in Inventor)...
So on to a new version...

Thanks for your reply's, best regards

I have the sampe problem but with Inventor 2011 LT. The program was running on my old 32 bit machine with Windows 10. Despite many attempts at fixes over the last few days the program will  not run on my new 64 bit machine with Windows 10. It is always 0cx0000124.

Hi! Where did you get Inventor 2013 or 2011? Could you contact our reseller near you? I have replied to you in another thread.

Many thanks!

Hi Bill,

2011 LT is not exactly supported anymore 🙂 That being said, the 2011 fix we released for this issue for win8.1 is at https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/inventor-products/downloads/caas/downloads/content/hotfix-inv....

Whether it still works or not I don't know....

If it fails to install you might be able to extract the dll file from the .msp manually.... it should be called Rse.dll & it goes in the ..\..\InventorLT 2011\Bin folder.

Hope this helps,
Chris
