Frame Generator with Custom Structural Shape

So I sketch my frame layout and bring it into a new assembly.

Then I go to "Insert Frame" and the list provided does not give me a profile that I need.

What do I need you may ask? A mild steel square tube .75" X .75" with a 1/16" wall.

Tutorial shows I can create my own structural profiles and use those. So I create one.

But, now how do I get my custom Structural Shape to show up in the dropdown list in the Frame Generator?

Or did I miss something?

Creating custom profiles really does work, but you have to follow the procedure meticulously, and be absolutely certain that they are published to the Structural Shapes section of your Read/Write library.

But in this case, why not just copy the square tubing family from the ANSI libary to your R/W library and then add a new row to the table?

Thanks for your input Sam. And as my sign-off states "newbie" so thanks again.

You spoke of read/write library and just adding a row to the table.

Would you care to enlighten me as to how to bring that ANSI table local?

Don't have time to explain in detail, but open the Content Center Editor and poke around.  You should be able to create a new library, and then copy a family from the ANSI library to your new one.  If I recall correctly, you have a choice of keeping the new family linked to the source, or not.

As you have probably discovered, the installed libraries are permanently read-only, so you have to create your own in order to customize anything.

Good luck!
