adaptively used in assembly grayed

Hey there,

I am trying to learn how to use adaptive parts with inventor, so I designed the basic example: One spring between to rectangular parts. I succeeded in designing the spring as an adaptive part, but no matter what I do, When I start an assembly and put the 3 parts together, I am not able to use adaptivity, because it is grayed out in the tools menu> documents setting> modeling.

Could you tell me what the problem is?

Many thanks in advance,

Christophe

You might try going to Tools>Document Settings in the part.  Check the Modeling tab and make sure that "Adaptively Used in Assembly" is deselected.

I remember this causing the option to gray out.

Hi Jonathan,

Thank you very much for your answer.

This doesn't seem to be the problem, it appears each time I open a new assembly the adaptive option is already grayed. Maybe it is a problem of default settings, is it possible?

Best,

Christophe

Have you used this part in another assembly? If so try turning off the adaptivity in that assembly.

Hi,

If I understand you correct you:

1) first create 3 parts

2) create NEW assembly

3) place those 3 parts in this assembly

4) can not make one of them adaptive.

If this is your situation you will not be able to make this part adaptive because it is adaptive in assembly you created it adaptive in and in such case it can not be set adaptive in another assembly.

Taking this sentence to parts:

1) part can only be adaptive in only one assembly.

2) if you put part that is set adaptive in assembly A in to assembly B it can not be adaptive in assembly B

3) Part that is adaptive in assembly A and is placed in ti assembly B will have a shape it has in assembly A in all assemblies it is placed in.

Hope this helps. If not please explain your situation more clearly, and post files.

Cris.
