3D Sketch Constraints - Baffled

Having recently switched from 2020 to 2024, I've tried to create a 3D sketch & something is different.

In 2020, I'd draw lines, starting at the centre point, using precise input coordinates.  Attached is an example created in 2020.  The first line drawn is constrained, the rest aren't until they are dimensioned.

If I repeat the same procedure in 2024, the first line isn't constrained & neither are the rest, even after dimensioning.

To fully constrain, I have to apply constrain to axis.  Attached is an example created in 2024.

The 2020 files behaves as expected when opened in 2024.

It's probably something really simple, so what have I missed?

Hi!

Probably you are creating the geometry with ORTHO MODE off.
If you design with Ortho Mode on, the "axis constrains" are created automatically:

Thanks @CCarreiras, but ortho wasn't selected to draw the 2020 version.

In fact, I tried to draw the 2024 version with ortho on, using precise input & it was  unworkable.

I've got a a video, but I'm out of of the office at the moment.

I'll have another go at it tomorrow.

@arkelec

Side note - I create nearly all 3D sketches as Intersection of 2D sketches.

Easier to create.

Far easier to edit.

This right here, best practice for me as well.. I've been creating 3d sketches as intersections of 2D sketches for years.. I just never knew the words to explain it.. Great suggestion

@CCarreiras - as I said, I constructed that 2020 geometry with ORTHO mode OFF.  Here's a video of the workflow.

2024 definitely has a different outcome for the same workflow.  So is there another setting somewhere, or have things actually changed?

Ok, i get it, but i can't find an option to create the constraints on the fly or make it persistent, besides the precise input, it's always a need to select a plane direction to create a constraint... the workflow changed, but like others stated above, i also use some references 2D to guide the 3D sketch, but i understand also the needs of your workflow.
I suggest to create an Autodesk case to give your feedback about this.

Thanks, I'm going to look at this now as an option.

I only use 3D sketches for cable cores, and once the path is drawn, it's fairly easy to modify them.

I have a template which allows for different positioning within a loom & the subsequent dimensional changes.
