iPart Library Confusion!

Hello everybody,

I'm trying to set up an iPart library and add new factories/members (from scratch).

So I opened my project file and add a new library as per the (very limited) instructions you can find here:

https://help.autodesk.com/view/INVNTOR/2023/ENU/?guid=GUID-3D150CB6-7E6C-4168-9799-1E596D0C803E

You can see a screenshot of my project here:

So next I model a part with various parameters, click the 'create iPart' button and add a few variations and go to save it in my newly creating iParts library but I get this message pop up saying once saved it won't be editable (screenshot below). But I do want to be able to edit the iPart factory to add more members etc.

Am I doing this correctly? Have I missed something? Any insight would be appreciated as I've searched for this pop up and haven't found any useful results!

Hi, yes, files in Library folder are read-only.

You can try use the "Frequently Used Subfolders" instead.

Hi @Inventor_Hobbyist

As already suggested libraries location are read only. So create a dedicated project with the library path as the workspace specifically for editing. This way when you do a copy design the library files are reused. The down side is having to change the project to edit the ipart.

An alternative is to put the library path in the workgroup search path while your editing within your project. When the project is over or before any copying change the library path back to the  libraries location. It will return to being read only and can be skipped in copying files.
