3D PDF MODELLING ERROR

Hi all.

I've jest noticed a strange behaviour when I create 3D PDF with Inventor 2018. 3 of assy files with cut extrusions are displayed as the raw material I placed out of the Content Centre instead of the machined assy file.

I proved this by using the Measure tool n the PDF. The roll (shown on the left in the pic below) is 425.0 mm long finished size in the assy and in the PDF whereas the Content Centre part representing the raw material is 430.0 mm long. The 5 mm difference is the first extrude I make to represent the face cleanup of the raw steel.

The second pic below is how the roll should display in the PDF.

I also have this problem with another assy in the same model where I have added a blind hole to a part. The hole is not being shown in the PDF.

Ideas or just a bug?

Hello @bhenderson,

What do you mean the Hole, is it the one built on top of an assembly or a part level Hole feature? If it's an assembly hole, I doubt that is probably not supported yet.

About the dimension case, have you tried with export the single part to 3D PDF and check the dimension, is that accurate? If not, would you mind share a set of sample file to me for a better investigation?

Hope it helps!

First pic below is the missing hole. It's placed at the assembly level. See that the hole is missing in the PDF.

Pic below is the roll that is an assy file with a placed CC member. I then extrude away material to make the shape of the roll. See that the shape is completely different. What is shown in the PDF is the size & shape of the CC part.

I have attached both datasets as zipped Pack-N-Go files.

Hello @bhenderson,

Checked the dataset, you are building modeling feature on top of assembly which is called assembly features. Assembly features are not supported to generate 3D PDF, if you open the part file, you will see the same result compared with 3D PDF.

By the way, assembly hole is not supported right now, below is the idea which is gethering support, please cast your vote on.

3D PDF publishing should include Assembly Features

To avoid the confusion, please add part feature on each part to solve the problem.

Hope it helps!

Hi Brendan,

Like Xun mentioned here, assembly features in Inventor are not yet supported in 3D PDF export workflow unfortunately. If you do need the such support urgently, you may want to consider using Tetra4D 3D PDF Converter or other similar tools.

Many thanks!
