3D PDF publishing should include Assembly Features

3D PDF publishing should include Assembly Features

Hi All,

If I work with assemblies which are machined in the assemblie ( i.e. holes) the holes will not appear

in the 3D-PDF, because Inventor ignore all modifications of assemblies.

This causes additional work by creating a derived part which have to be used for creating of the 3D-PDF.

The disadvantage of this workaround is the missing functionality of the model explorer.

Please add this functionality.

Best Regards

Kai

3D PDF publishing does not currently support assembly features.

Customers are using assembly feature for vitalization or for machining in welding environment.

At the moment 3D PDF export has problems with assemblies: Export crashes all the time

Additionally:

  • Export of decals and graphical thread representations is not supported
  • Export of textures is not supported

Please do some enhancements that 3D PDF export is also working with bigger assemblies.

3D PDF is important esspecially for documentation department.

This is currently a known "limitation" of 3d PDF.  They know this issue exists, but we are still not able to use 3D PDF because of this.  Will they ever fix it?.... who knows.  AD is not saying.

There are multiple ideas/complaints about this.

In total we have here nearly 70 votes for the same thing, and please update the knowledgebase articles with the links to the ideas, so users can find the ideas to vote.

Many thanks!

Hi Matthias,

As you wish, those three are merged and all votes accumulated.

Thanks!

Absolutely agree.

This is a real killer for machine building and component designed of anything modified, or for (as noted above) manufacturing planning drawings and machining weldments or other "at-assembly" processes.  "Match-drilling" and installation of components is very-much still 'a thing' in machine design, which doesn't happen at the 'part level' and cannot be shown before assembly, or problems occur.

I tried to vote again for this.... but it would not let me.Smiley Happy

This really needs to be fixed because it cripples our use of 3D PDF.

I shouldn't be surprised that :-

a) this is another half baked release and

b) that it's been 2.5 years and it hasn't been addressed.

Yet I am surprised & dumbfounded!

Totally disappointed about this too.  Its still not fixed in 2020 and probably never will include assembly features.  We have been asking for the ability to change colors on machined faces for several years and that still has not happened either.  Same old stuff, different release.

Totally disappointed about this!!!  I have just spent 3 days making the template file for it to be worthless. Please sort it out Autodesk !!!!!!

Below is the answer I got from and Autodesk employee. It reads that assembly features (in my cast CUT features) aren't supported, but I see that a few weldments I have been creating 3D PDF's of also don't support the assembly feature of the weld so it's not just the CUT features that are the problem.

Their suggestion to use part features defeats the purpose of having a BOM with mass of the raw material and the machined item.

Hello @bhenderson,

Checked the dataset, you are building modeling feature on top of assembly which is called assembly features. Assembly features are not supported to generate 3D PDF, if you open the part file, you will see the same result compared with 3D PDF.

By the way, assembly hole is not supported right now, below is the idea which is gethering support, please cast your vote on.

3D PDF publishing should include Assembly Features

To avoid the confusion, please add part feature on each part to solve the problem.

Please ADD the assembly features to the exported 3DPDF !!!!

There should not need to be a "work around" for this.

This idea has been implemented within Autodesk Inventor 2021.1. Assembly features are now supported when exporting an assembly to 3D PDF. Special thanks to everyone who cast a vote for it.
