Did Autodesk drop the ball on the measure tool again?

How do I find the Length of the Cut Extrude inside the rectangle?

WITHOUT HAVING TO DO MATH!

Hi Michael,

I am sorry that you don't see the improvement in Measure command. I have to say many users would disagree with you. When we did the project, it was by user demand and it went through thorough user study for a year globally. We received overwhelming positive feedback.

There is always room for improvement though. I have heard requests like displaying component mass and volume. Or, capture the measurement in MBD/3DA. Or, control how loop is measured and so on.

Many thanks!

I also used the measure loop option in a sketch for chains or cables to check the overall length. It was very handy. Did you figure out how access this option in 2019 or 2020. I also do not have a "Select other" option on right click.

Hi! I have heard Select Other could be off occasionally for some users but we can never reproduce it ourselves. Check a few things.

1) Go to Tools -> App options -> General -> Select Other delay. Set it to a smaller value.

2) Try using Inventor Reset Utility (All Programs -> Autodesk -> Inventor xxxx -> Tools -> Inventor Reset Utility). This will reset all settings back to install default including all UI customization and shortcut keys.

Many thanks!

The feature is there in 2019, but so far the description how to access it has been terrible:

  1. Select "Measure"
  2. Hover over one section of the sketch until the alternative option dropdown appears
  3. Select "Curve Loop"

To the best of my knowledge there is no way to export this as a live parameter.

@Anonymous  Andy, you can edit the sketch and create dimensions (arc lengths for arcs) for each line or arc (even if driven dimensions) and then create a "live" user parameter that adds them together.

Hi! Indeed, the Measure tool passively reports the measurement. It cannot convert or capture the measurement has a parameter. There is a way to get the loop length by creating a sweep feature of a circular profile along the path. Then find the volume of the body (via iLogic) and divide it by the circular area.

Many thanks!

In Solidworks, it works in 3D too.
Select edge,  RMB select tangency, measure: it's ready
It works, since ages 😞
