Inserted object will not delete from copied drawing sheet

There was a drawing sheet with an inserted object that needed to be copied.  When that sheet was copied into another drawing, one of the inserted objects (a jpeg in this case) was not needed and we attempted to delete it.  It will not delete.  If you go back to the original sheet, it will delete.  All the other information on the drawing (base views, notes, dimensions, etc) will delete except for the inserted objects

A coworker was working on this, and I replicated the same situation on my computer.

Hi! The behavior sounds defective to me. Could you share a drawing reproducing the behavior? Or, you literally insert an image to any sheet. Then copy and paste to a new file and the image cannot be deleted?

Many thanks!

I just went through these steps:

  1. Create new drawing
  2. Insert Base View and Projected View
  3. Dimension Model
  4. Manage> Insert Object
  5. Open New Drawing
  6. Copy sheet from original drawing into new drawing
  7. Paste sheet into new drawing
  8. Right click on image> no delete option

I agree that it sounds defective, but not much more so than not being able to copy a sheet in one file and paste it into itself.  But yes, you literally insert an image to any sheet, copy and paste the sheet into a new file and the image cannot be deleted.

Once Inventor eventually crashed and rebooted the behavior seems to have gone away.

I spoke too soon- it has resurfaced in 2019.  We have since switched and the issue is still there.

Hi Barton,

I am sorry I am confused. Is the crash about message#3 here? I cannot seem to reproduce the issue on 2018 or 2019. When it crashes, did you submit the crash report? If yes, please send me an email (johnson.shiue@autodesk.com). I would like to understand the behavior better.

Many thanks!

The crash was unrelated to the issue posted.

The issue of not being able to delete an inserted image from a copied sheet remains, however, as well as not being able to copy a sheet in a drawing and paste it into the same drawing.

Hi Barton,

I got it now. I think they might be related. But, I am not 100% sure. The crash was reported as INVGEN-17167. Anyway, I can get it to crash. This is an excellent catch!

I will work with the project team to see how we can address the crash.

Many thanks!
