AutoCAD 2016 Failed Installation - Windows 10

Hello

I downloaded the student version of autocad 2016 for 64 windows.

However when I click to run the install it does not complete and I get an error message saying:

"windows cannot find setup.exe. make sure you typed the name correctly and try again."

Please help

Cory

Did you do the download and install combo thing (which is the default)?

Do this instead -> Download the entire thing from the Virtual Agent.  Follow the steps outlined here: How to Download, Extract, and start the Install

That's because you're using the Install Now option and the web installer (Install Now) it only used to install at that moment, that why it's called InstallNowSmiley Wink

That being said, you should never use it anyway because there's too many issues with it. Instead use the virtual agent as posted by @rkmcswain

I am having issues with the virtual agent.

The error message is "windows cannot findsetup.exe make sure you typed the name correctly and try again.

I get this message after the file finishes downloading and I open it to run the file

@Anonymous, check to make sure your antivirus, spyware, CCleaner and other scanning applications are disabled prior to double-clicking the executable.

I was concerned about doing that but I did disable all firewalls, antivirus, user account control as support suggested.

Can you take a screenshot the downloaded file so I can compare mine?

From within Windows Explorer, show file extension and try the installer again. Keep in mind that the files from the download package should've extracted everything to C:\Autodesk\

show file extensions.png

I did try again

I downloaded the file from the agent:

AutoCAD_2016_English_Win_64bit_dlm.sfx it under the extension column it shows it as .exe

After it finished which took almost 45 or so with the firewall off and antivirus scan off.

I launched it by clicking the file. It appears to start running and asks about the destination folder c:\Autodesk\.

However, within seconds the same message download manager stopped working pops up again.

and it stops there.

The file you should be executing is "AutoCAD_2016_English_Win_64bit_dlm.sfx.exe" (1,929,681 KB)

I'm not sure what those files are that have the "r1" string in the filename.

The extracted files should look like this when you're done extracting, but before the install.

I am trying to download and install autocad 2016 student version.

I dont know why they download with different name than yours.

Are you downloading the same version as I am?

I have used the agent for download and also the links from support and thats what shows up.

I have attached a screen cap so you can see the file as its being downloaded.

The link to download this came from autodesk support.

Let me know if you can see the screen capture.

Again I am trying to install autocad 2016 for students for 4 days now

Install issue resolved:

All thanks for your input

I finally got autodesk to install.

I kept having issues with download manager failing and decided to confirm again that I was admin.

I have attached screen cap showing I am admin (user id covered up).

However I right click the file called AutoCAD_2016_English_Win_64bit_r1_dlm.sfx.exe

and chose the option to run as administrator and voila it worked.

So I guess even though I am signed in as admin I am not really admin?

I have used my admin to install apps from IHS and several other geology apps before with no problem and the computer is barely 4 months old.

If anyone can explain the admin issue I would appreciate it either way thanks all for your help!

On Windows 10, the Administrator account still is not administrator.  Thank you Microsoft.  Smiley Mad

D'oh!

At least you are up and running.  That's the important part!
