3ds max 2017 install problem - saying 3dsmax.exe is running

I am getting an error when trying to install max 2017 on windows 7. It says 3dsmax.exe is running, but it is not and I can't proceed with the install. Does anyone have any advice here?

Thanks,

Lyle

I should add that I have gone to the task manager and the processes tab and can see that 3dsmax.exe is running under the SYSTEM user name. When i try to end the process it immediately reopens and I can't proceed with the max 2017 install. (I also have 3ds max 2015 installed and I want to keep it installed for the time being)

Thanks,

Lyle

Welcome to the community...

Have you rebooted your machine?  Then recheck the task manager?  Is 3DS Max still there?

Yes I have tried that twice now and it appears in the task manager after rebooting. Should 3dsmax.exe always be running in the background as a SYSTEM user? And is there a way to end the process and prevent it from restarting immediately afterwards?

Thanks,

Lyle

I found the problem! It was vrayspawner running in the background and it is installing now. This case is closed!

Thank you,

Lyle
