MentalRay dll not loading-MAX17

When opening an existing Max16 file (with mental ray as render) in 17, I get missing dll errors for mental ray.  The path in 17 is set to the location where the files are located, but they don't to load.

Obviuosly I can not select mental ray as the render in 17. So I have been playing with ART but not getting the same results as MR gives.  I need to stay with MR to finish current projects.  More time spent with ART and adjusting settings might help....we will see.

Initially i have the same problem, i download the zip files and copy paste all the files in the folders.  Unistall mentalray plugin, then i run mentalrayplugins2017  file.

Now the error panel doesnt appear but i dont see mentalray or iray.  Only appears quicksilver and arch&desing materials.

Whats wrong ?

Hello, I have the same problem. I tried both installers from this thread. MentalRay is still missing. How can I solve this?

I am not sure, but did you see the rendering plugins installed?  I did not, only the feature plugins.  I uninstall the Nvidia feature plugins and and then ran the install file provided.  I was then able see both Iray and mental Ray as available renderers in Max.  On the initial installation I was getting the feature plugins, but not the rendering plugins.

I don't see any MentalRay Plugins in the plugin manager. Is that what you are asking?

mentalray and iray comes with your instalation?? I try several times, reinstall, download mentalray but it doesnt work.

Do you use student version?

Not the plugins manager, but Control Panel / Programs and Features for your system.

Try to install both of those files, Mentalray2017.msi it's not enough, I found them in installation folder

c:\Autodesk\WI\Autodesk 3ds Max 2017\x64\MENTALRAY\Mentalray2017.msi
c:\Autodesk\WI\Autodesk 3ds Max 2017\x64\MENTALRAYPLUG\MentalrayPlugins2017.msi

In case anybody else is still having issues with this we noticed the \nVidia subdirectory in plugins directory wasn't included in the Plugin.UserSettings.ini file in the root of 3DS Max

This may have been as a result of the installation batch file we have setup where we add a network plugin pool to the plugins locations, or a screwed Mentalray installation?

Either way when this was added to the plugin paths it worked, without even reinstalling Mentalray.

What exactly did you put into Plugin.UserSettings.ini? I put in: (I have installed both Mentalray2017.msi and MentalrayPlugins2017.msi provided in this thread but MR is still not loading in Plugin Manager.)

I tried reinstalling 3ds Max 2017 and checking the box to install MR and Iray, but it doesn't show up!

Obviously dependant on your max location

Hallelujah! I added a path in Configure System Paths, 3rd Party Plugins, pointing to C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3ds Max 2017\Plugins\NVIDIA\Plugins and now it finally works!

I must say this is ridiculous.

Got the same problem since a while here and I added the plugin path to ...NVIDIA/Plugins  and it worked too! Thank for the tip!

The funny thing is that for some reasons I already 2 paths related to nvidia in that dialog but it seems none of them was the good one! The last one is the one I added to make it finally stop poping error related to missing mental ray files.

I'm having the same issues. I have downloaded my version on 3D MAX17 direct from my account on autodesk. I have aldo downloaded the file you posted but I still get the same pop-up with the same error: Missing dlls mrmaterialattribs.gup.

I'm about to reinstall 3D max and see what happen.

I have had this same problem, except on our farm where I install 2017 and then get the mrmaterialAtrribs.gup dll error in Deadline. However reinstall mentalray and max did not work , neither did the mental ray files posted earlier. I had to copy my Plugin.UserSettings.ini which contained this: [Directories] Additional MAX plug-ins=C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3ds Max 2017\PlugIns Additional MAX plug-ins NVIDIA=C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3ds Max 2017\PlugIns\NVIDIA\Plugins\ [Help] I had to copy that file into the "C:\Users\*USERNAME*\AppData\Local\Autodesk\3dsMax\2017 - 64bit\ENU" and the AppData folder is hidden by default, so I had to enable that. After all that garbage, things seem to render correctly on the farm....very easy once I figured it out, which took me most of a day.... ...one missing ini file, really Autodesk, silly.

In addition to my post above, if you don't see the 2017-64bit folder in the user folder you installed into, run Max once so that it can create the user files and folders, you'll see the Plugin.UserSettings.ini file is probably missing. This threw me for a loop too.
