Install Problems Inventor 2012 under Vista

Until recently I had installed on my system Inventor 2012, worked no problem. After a disasterous crash of my system I tried re-installing the products I had been using prior to the crash; Sketchbook Designer 2012, 3DSMax 2012, Maya 2012, all installed and working fine except Inventor 2012, after re-installing all Windows updates (Service Packs and Hotfixes).

Tried a clean install, all traces of previous versions from the root drive and registry- no good.

Tried a removal of all Autodesk Products from the system, root drive references and registry entries - no good.

When trying to install Inventor the installation gets as far as confirmation of installed products screen, (after confirmation of serial number and product code) which all show a red cross beside all applications them with the folder structure created in the root drive. Running the setup.exe has the same effect.

Any ideas

I managed to figure this out by myself.

When installing Inventor 2012, on my system anyway, the deployment tries to instal the Visual  C++ 2010 redistributable package and on finding that is already installed, the installation is aborted (?).

I manually removed the 2010 package and Inventor installed without further problems. I also now regret having removed the other AutoDesk products from my system and spent so much time chasing this issue!

This is why it is important to post your resolution and mark it as an accepted answer.  Helping other users find resolutions helps everyone.  Sometimes it is hard to search for these resolutions.  The user above was helped by this post even though me and dozens of other peers have posted identical solutions to the problem.

Good job!
