AutoCAD 2027 Error 4000 - BS_ERROR_706 - All standard fixes tried

Hi everyone,

I'm getting Error 4000 when trying to install AutoCAD 2027 (Education license) on Windows 10 Home 64-bit, Intel Core i7-7500U, 8GB RAM.

The installation starts, reaches around 17% and then rolls back to 0% and fails.

What I already tried:

  • Recreated the Public Documents folder
  • Downloaded and ran AdODIS-installer.exe as administrator (multiple times)
  • Deleted C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\ODIS completely
  • Renamed C:\Users%USERNAME%\AppData\Local\Autodesk\ODIS to ODIS_old
  • Cleared both %temp% and C:\Windows\Temp folders
  • Disabled Windows Defender completely
  • Killed all Autodesk processes before each install attempt
  • Restarted the PC multiple times between attempts

Error found in Setup log: BS_ERROR_706 — "process completed with non-zero exit code: 1" Installation ID: 6aca91ca-5181-45c1-8367-afd1b2aed857

Note: C:\Program Files\Autodesk\AdODIS\V1 only contains a Setup subfolder — RemoveODIS.exe is never present even after reinstalling ODIS.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Have you made sure that your Windows 10 has been updated to Windows 10 22H2?  I have run into a bunch of unexplainable 2027 installation issues because Windows 10 or Windows 11 haven't been upgraded past the 21Hx versions.

Hi @jespositoP3U23 ,

Thank you for sharing the detailed troubleshooting steps you’ve already tried; that’s really helpful and appreciated.

Based on the behavior you described (installation rolling back at ~17% with Error 4000 / BS_ERROR_706), this typically points to an issue with the installation framework (ODIS) or system prerequisites, rather than the main installer itself.

From the setup log, the message“BS_ERROR_706 – process completed with non-zero exit code: 1” generally indicates a failure in the bootstrap/installation process. This can be caused by factors such as corrupted ODIS components, permission issues, missing dependencies, or system requirements not being met.

Observations from your case

  • You’ve already:
    • Cleaned ODIS folders
    • Reinstalled AdODIS
    • Cleared temp directories
    • Disabled antivirus
  • However, you mentioned:
    • RemoveODIS.exe is missing in
      C:\Program Files\Autodesk\AdODIS\V1

This is an important clue, normally the file should exist, and its absence can indicate a partially installed or corrupted ODIS component.

Recommended next steps

Please try the following in order:

1. Fully remove ODIS (even if incomplete)

  • Manually delete:
    C:\Program Files\Autodesk\AdODIS
    C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\ODIS
    C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Autodesk\ODIS

  • Reboot the system

2. Reinstall ODIS cleanly

  • Download a fresh copy of AdODIS-installer.exe
  • Right-click → Run as administrator
  • Confirm that:
    C:\Program Files\Autodesk\AdODIS\V1\RemoveODIS.exe

    is now present

3. Verify system readiness (very important)

From your description:

  • Windows 10 Home
  • 8 GB RAM

AutoCAD 2027 requires higher baseline resources, and insufficient RAM can contribute to installation failures.

Also ensure:

  • At least ~50 GB free disk space
  • Latest Windows updates installed
  • Installation run with local admin account

(System requirement or resource limitations are a known cause for BS_ERROR_706 failures.)

4. Try installation using Browser Download (not Autodesk Access)

  • Download full installer instead of using Autodesk Access
  • Extract locally
  • Run Setup.exe as administrator

5. Additional checks

  • Temporarily uninstall antivirus (not just disable)
  • Ensure no VPN/proxy is active
  • Try creating a new local admin Windows profile and install from there

Additional note

Error 4000 is a generic install failure, and when combined with BS_ERROR_706, it usually indicates:

  • ODIS corruption
  • Environment/pre-requisite issue
  • Or system not meeting requirements
