ACAD 2017 problems

Hi,

I have been using a  licensed version of ACAD 2017 for some time on a Dell Laptop with the following configuration:

Windows 10 Pro;Intel (R) Core (TM) i7 -264M CPU @ 2.80GHz, 6.00GB RAM64-bit OS; Intel (R) HD Graphic 3000 and NVIDIA GeFORCE GT 555M.

The main problem is that the programme doesn't even load or rather it takes about 15 minute to launch. Then it doesn't take any commands! It has to be force shut.

I've sent my complaints to Autodesk who eventually started communicating with me privately. They told me to uninstall the programme using a specific  sequence which was followed. I made sure that all file remnants are removed. Then they asked me to reinstall programme from an FTP they sent me. Cleaned registry and all residual and temporary files.  When I tried to insert Product key and Serial Number, it didn't recognize the product key. I even updated the software as instructed by a pop up. Practically nothing changed. The software hangs up during loading screen. I've also sent them log files.

Their final reply was:

We’ve tried everything we know to help you. Unfortunately Autodesk is unable to provide individualized support to students to tackle technical problems such as the one you are having.

We request you to post the query at our Discussion group. These discussion groups are monitored by Autodesk Experts and they would be able to respond with precise information.

Any help would be greatly appreciated because I cannot use this software.

In general, licensing issues can cause problems with restarting AutoCAD. Right-click on the taskbar and choose Task Manager. Then stop every process that relates to Autodesk.  Then start AutoCAD from the desktop (making sure that you have a stable internet connection). Do not double-click on a drawing when having these issues.

Hi @jdou1,

I am sorry you are seeing this slow startup for AutoCAD.

Did the specialist recommend that you clear your licensing?  Does AutoCAD at startup seem to hang at the license check?

Hi,

Thanks for your reply. Tried and managed to reach the input serial number and product key stage. As already happened on the previous occasion the product key is not recognized. Once I close the window the software is launched and received a licence error stating " The License manager is not functioning or is improperly installed. AutoCAD will shut down now." The system hangs up and is unable to close. I had to force shutdown programme through task manager.

When the problem occurred I checked the Task manager to try to identify what could be the issue which was causing the software to hang up and noticed the antivirus software in overdrive so I stopped it working and tried again but the problem persisted.

Tried suggested licence solution by removing mentioned files and stopping antivirus but problem persists.

If you are a student and downloaded the product as part of the student licensing process, you should have received an email with both the proper serial number and product key.  You must enter both correctly in order for the product to register itself properly.  Make sure you downloaded the product that your serial number and product key apply to.

yes that's logical and in fact it is those numbers which I have entered but for some reason the key is not accepted! In fact when Autodesk were addressing the issue they even sent me an FTP link to download the version of ACAD but the key was not accepted! Then they gave up and said what I have already stated!

>>>... but the key was not accepted!...<<<
key? As in product key? As in you probably did not notice the second from the last is the letter i (sound like EYE) and is not a one or an L or some other icon?

Done that already a thousand time but the software just hangs up while
loading . Sometime even to the extent that it doesn't reach the inputting
of the serial number and product key.
I've waited for more than 10 minutes for the software to load then had to
force close it.

I tried disabling .net 4.7 from the Programs & Features, using only .net 3.5 to no avail.

Since the OS is Windows 10 I cannot roll back .net without rolling back the entirety of Creators update and losing work from other apps in the process.

Is it possible to manually replace .net 4.7 to .net 4.6.2 without removing the windows update package?

I've tried downloading the offline installers for 4.6.2 & 4.6.1 but won't allow me to install them as a newer version is currently installed (and Disabled in Programs & Features)

HI @jdou1,

.NET Framework ver 4.7.1 is now available and I believe it will correct the issue for you. You should be able to download it from here. Please let me know your results and if the install is successful.

eventually the software opened up but got the attached message about licence manager. The software had to be force closed since it refused to shut down.

@jdou1

I assume you mean its hanging on checking the license..  https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/autocad/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/Softwa... or https://knowledge.autodesk.com/search-result/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/Autodesk-2017-software-h...

Hope that helps..

Hi,

I had already tried out your first solution which didn't work. On trying the second one the programme took less time to launch but hang up and cannot be used. I get a flickering cursor accompanied with a blue circle.

I tried launching the software using a drawing but obtained the same results.

Hi @jdou1,

I am sorry this is an on-going problem for you.  The error message you shared should be corrected by the steps in this article which describe how to manually set the license information.

What bothers me however, is that you keep mentioning Anti-virus software. What do you have installed? Do you have more than one application installed? Have you done anything special with your firewall? Does this behavior happen on all networks?

Can you end the running AV and malware tasks before starting AutoCAD to see if that improves performance?
