3ds Max student and education version

I am taking in a 3d modeling class and we are using the 3ds max education version. After 1 month I decided  to download the student version so I can work on my class project at home instead of having to relied on the school computer. I was able to load the file from the education version onto the student version fine but today in class when I try to open the file onto the education version it said that "This file was created using a Student Version of Autodesk 3ds Max. Use of this data by an education institution or for commercial purpose is a violation of your Autodesk 3ds Max License Agreement". Does this mean that I am not able to use the file from either one interchangeable?

No, this is normal.  Works created in an educational version will warn you that they  were created in an educational version when you move them around to different installations.  It's possible that the application you were on was running as a trial or other licensing model.  Or it could just be a normal side-effect.

Essentially, this is a warning by design, so that you do not use your educational work in a commercial version of the software.  You have nothing to worry about with this message in an educational setting.

Thanks for asking!  Better to be safe than sorry!

Hello @Anonymous,

Educational Institutions use a commercial license. That message is a standard reminder for users that they are opening a student version in a commercial version of the software. As long as you are not violating the use of the software agreement by using Student Version software in a commercial environment you are fine. In your case, you are using the software for what it is intended for, which is educational purposes only.

Thank you for posting. Smiley Happy
