Hi all post developers,

We just pushed Autodesk HSM Post Editor for Visual Studio Code live as an Open Source project under the MIT license. Check it out at:

https://github.com/Autodesk/cam-posteditor

This project is an extension for Visual Studio Code that makes life much easier when developing posts.

You can get the installation for Visual Studio Code at:

https://marketplace.visualstudio.com/items?itemName=Autodesk.hsm-post-processor

@GeorgeRoberts has been working on this until now. But my hope is that we can work together as a community to make it even better. So if you are interested in contributing make sure to engage. Of course you are welcome to just make requests for the post team also. You can use the post idea station for such requests.

Note that you need to sign a small agreement before we can accept contributions.See the README for details.

George will post introduction to the extension here.

Try a simple post that just writes a single line of text. To see if it is something in your post. It that doesn't work then you have to check things like folder permissions and file system paths in any settings. I'm not sure what to look for specifically here. But one thing to check is that paths use the same upper/lower case as actual in the file system.

Claytonics, fonsecr,

Thank you for the replies. I will continue troubleshooting. I don't think the problem is path related as a file is created in the proper location every time I post using the export post. The problem is that the file has no code in it. I get the impression that the post engine is not being called even though I pointed the extension at the post location.

Thanks again for your time.

Hi,

I have post version 3.5.5 and have gotten the same error as many others: "Running the contributed command: 'HSM.postProcess' failed.".  Unfortunately, this error doesn't give me the option to browse to the post.exe location.

Is there another way around this?

Here's my attempt:  I may be mistaken, but it appears like the location may be stored in a settings.json file in the /res directory.  Unfortunately, that file is empty so I can't explicitly place the path.  I am aware of .json functional purpose, but I don't have enough experience to build the structure from the function that is calling it.

Thanks in advance!

Good morning,

Sorry for the delayed response.

When you say "it's not working anymore", does that mean it used to work for you? Can you give me some information on your setup:

- Operating system

- Add-in version

I assume that post-processing is still working within VSCode, it's just the line jumping?

Good Morning George or Rene',

I'm experiencing problems with HSM if I press F1 and type HSM nothing happens or go to settings and type HSM I get a JavaScript error. I thought by removing visual studio and reloading it would fix the error but it didn't.

Is there a fix for my problem?

Well I went back in time with revisions and now I have the HSM back but still cannot click on a line in my G-code and jump to the line in the post processor.

thank you

John

PS,

Got the HSM working.

@GeorgeRoberts hello, I downloaded your add-in, unfortunately I have the impression that it does not work on macOS? Is this normal?

It's a plugin for Visual Studio Code, not Fusion.
So you won't see any of it in Fusion.

For anyone who may be encountering an issue I went through:

I followed steps with VSC and Autodesk Post Utility.

However, I kept running into an "Unknown Spawn Error".

This was because I mistakenly had confused setting the location of post executable with the post file (.cps)

Also, I noticed the post executable is no longer called "post exe". Simply "post" with file type application.

Does anyone know the location of the "post.exe" file on macOS?

Bump, any support for Mac?

Looking through the post history the Autodesk team has mentioned many times that they will bring this add-in to mac but after 7 years I'm not seeing any support

For anyone wanting to find the post utility on Mac, I have a few notes that I created when I installed it - they may help?

1) Install VSCode (download from https://code.visualstudio.com/download)

2) Once installed, on the extensions tab, Search for and Install Autodesk Fusion Post Processor Utility

andrewmillardCYPQ9_8-1750685840484.png

3) Click on Settings (bottom of side bar) -

andrewmillardCYPQ9_9-1750685840253.png

4) Click on ‘Extensions’ and then ‘Autodesk Post Utility’

andrewmillardCYPQ9_10-1750685840201.png

The Post Executable Path needs to be added here –

You will need to use ‘Finder’ and browse to the following directory –

Users/Username/Library/ApplicationSupport/Autodesk/webdeploy/production/7bbcfa8bd731b98100cd66ff03f62542666d03df

The ‘Username’ is what you are logged in as, and the long number at the end of the above path is whatever version of Fusion you have installed gives you this unique folder name.

In that folder you should see ‘AutodeskFusion.app’ – this is where the post executable is.  To be able to use this, you need to open this app as a folder.  Control + Right Click on the app and then select ‘Show Package Contents’

andrewmillardCYPQ9_11-1750685840254.png

You should then be able to browse to Contents/Libraries/Applications/CAM360/

andrewmillardCYPQ9_12-1750685840245.png

Optionally, you can add a shortcut to the CAM360 folder to the Favourites sidebar by clicking and dragging (with the COMMAND key depressed to the desired position).  Might be useful if you need to find this again?

Control and Right Click on ‘Post’ and then ‘Get Info’

andrewmillardCYPQ9_13-1750685840255.png

Highlight and copy (Command + C) the path beginning with users –

andrewmillardCYPQ9_14-1750685840264.png

Paste into VS Code Settings for Post Location  (make sure ‘/post’ is on the end of the path) –

andrewmillardCYPQ9_15-1750685840288.png

Restart VS-Code and posting should now be possible.

If my post answers your question, please click the 'Accept Solution' button. This helps everyone find answers more quickly!
