Hi all post developers,

We just pushed Autodesk HSM Post Editor for Visual Studio Code live as an Open Source project under the MIT license. Check it out at:

https://github.com/Autodesk/cam-posteditor

This project is an extension for Visual Studio Code that makes life much easier when developing posts.

You can get the installation for Visual Studio Code at:

https://marketplace.visualstudio.com/items?itemName=Autodesk.hsm-post-processor

@GeorgeRoberts has been working on this until now. But my hope is that we can work together as a community to make it even better. So if you are interested in contributing make sure to engage. Of course you are welcome to just make requests for the post team also. You can use the post idea station for such requests.

Note that you need to sign a small agreement before we can accept contributions.See the README for details.

George will post introduction to the extension here.

Pretty sure to make that work you should check-out the Heidenhain post.

That has all the logic to pull in the data from the kinematic file.

Hello Laurens,

Thank you for the fast answer.  I might take the question badly: If I post a CNC file with the "Export CNC file to VSCode" post the posted code has information about the used Machine Kinematic?

Thanks for the reply.

I'll add an option to select a machine kinematics file within the extension

Hi.

I installed VSCode 1.39.2 and Autodesk Fusion 360 Post V 3.0.1.

CNC files shown in the explorer sidebar.

I select the cnc file and press CTRL+ALT+G

The message appears: Running the contributed command: 'HSM.postProcess' failed.

I tried to select V 3.0.0. All the same.

I read all the messages several times, but could not find a solution.
Can someone help me?

My system is Win10.

Thank.

What is the post processor file you had used?

I used different postprocessors. Including Haas and Fanuc.

On Mac, the post location is in the fusion install folder:

<Your User Directory> - Library- Application Support- Autodesk- Webdeploy- <Folder with a lot of numbers and letters> - Applications - CAM360 - Post

OK so i have it to where it pulls the post for me to look at it and change stuff from fusion but it doesn't give me the .NC file to compare with the post any idea how to accomplish this?

I see this has still not been updated to work with a mac? Very disappointing. Seems like I just keep running into issues with autodesk dropping the ball. Their GRBL laser post is not fully functioning. I'm trying to fix it. Now I find out their post processor utility is not fully functioning on mac. Its almost like you are forcing me to go use someone elses software.

Oh  ya? Because on two machines I am unable to run the post executable. None of the paths mentioned in previous comments point to the executable. And so as mentioned, this utility is only slightly better than using notepad.

Sorry for the issues. With the latest release of Fusion, the install location changed on Mac.

You can find the post executable in:

HOME/Library/application support/autodesk/webdeploy/production/Autodesk Fusion 360.app/contents/libraries/applications/CAM360/post

I'm working on getting the extension to auto-detect the post executable... I hope I can get it released in an update to the extension very soon

Unfortunately this is not accurate either. There is no autodesk folder in my application support. I have two macs with the latest fusion and nothing in application support on either.

I really hope this is something that these professionals can help with. I'd like to be working on my custom post but instead i'm spending a day+ trying to get the editor working...

Sorry for the delay. I've just got our Mac and recorded a video of where to find the post executable (robertg is simply my home folder). Please see the Screencast attached. You don't need to click the dll, that was just a mistake whilst trying to use the Mac touchpad

Hope this helps!

Thank you George. This does help. The key was that it was a hidden library from the User root. Thank you.

Unfortunately onto the next bug. There is no laser cutter option in the CNC selector. I am unable to process my code because I get the error does not support the required tool. Only laser cutter is supported.
