Terrible experience running Fusion 360 on an mbp M2 pro

Hello, I wanted to report my really huge anger against Fusion 360 lack of reliability.

I use Fusion 360 on an Macbook Pro M2 pro and before I was using it on an Intel Core i7 mbp.

I have to say it's the only software working as bad. At the beginning I understood that developpers needed time to make it compatible with the new architecture but now after this amount of time, it's just not acceptable.

The software is totally laggy and almost unusable.

It's getting worse and worse, it takes forever to apply changes after sketch edition for exemple, several minutes for this.

It used to be faster on my old 8 years old mbp.

And almost every time I try to quit properly the software i get a crash.

Do you really test it on Mac, with real projects ?

If the software is not compatible with apple please let us know and we will look for an other manufacturer.

Do you have a solution, or something to help me ? except telling me to turn off visual effects on a 3k€ professional computer in 2024 !

@fredericGTBCM Lets start from here:

"And almost every time I try to quit properly the software i get a crash"

When you get a crash, are you presented with a UI to send the crash to Autodesk? If so, can you share one of the report IDs that it generates so that I can find all the crashes you submitted?

@fredericGTBCM Thank you for the report ID. I was able to find all the crash reports you sent in. A lot of this is related to graphics. I am going to ask our engineering team about this but we do have a M2 MacBook pros that we use as part of our regular testing and coding. Have to look into more details on what could be happening on your machine that causes these crashes.

@fredericGTBCM At least two of the crashes you receive, it shows that we will be addressing them in a potential March update.

I am trying to collect more information about the graphics issue that could be a root cause to all the other things that you are seeing on your machine? Just to get this out of the way are there any macOS updates pending on your machine?

Thank you for your answer, I did not update to Sonoma yet but my Ventura is up to date.

Everything is up to date on my mbp M2 Pro Sonoma, and I still have crashes and lags. The experience is still terrible. I disabled all graphic effects, which is a shame on a 3k$ laptop, but still same behavior. I'm really really really... disappointed (don't want to be rude). I don't really know what's going on in the Autodesk Fusion 360 dev team, but you guys better hire some Mac Os specialists or just remove compatibility and just tell customers the truth : it does not work on Mac (I assume it works on Windows, but I did not try).

Sorry but I'm tired of getting 2 or 3 crashes a day.... Anyone knows a good alternative on Mac ?

Sorry to hear of your experiences with Fusion crashes.

Looking at your crash report history, I only see 10 reports in 2024. Are you always getting a crash report dialog, or is it crashing without the ability to send a report?

One of the crashes you reported recently has been addressed for a future release. Some of your other crashes are related to model data such as materials. Do you have a particular design that exhibits slowness or crashes when you open it? I'm happy to take a look and pass any reproducible crash to our developers for fixing. Any other ideas to help me reproduce the instability you are experiencing?

Honestly I had more than 10 crashes. Usually I always report. I had some
without the dialog.
Of course it works better on small projects, but on big ones it’s really
slow and laggy.
Sometimes to apply a change it takes 5 minutes to « recalculate" a
component.
I can not share these projects as it’s confidential. But FYI I think it
used to work the way better on my old mbp based on Core I7 architecture.
We are not doing planes, just housing for electronic boards.

About materials crasher could you tell me what is the problem exactly, maybe i can change some materials in my design to avoid the problem.

Sorry I was incorrect about materials, I mis-read the crash report. I should have said graphics.

You could try turning off all graphics effects if you have not yet. The best tool for this is on the Help menu > Support and Diagnostics > Graphics Diagnostic. Use "limit all effects" option at the bottom. If you haven't done this yet, it makes a big difference.
