Timeline Icons

I am trying to find a description of the icons in fusion 360 timeline - I have some new ones that I have no knowledge of - I think that they are extrusions but have a star in the upper right corner and no vertical arrow - I can't edit this feature and it has some new drop down boxes about creating a BOM.  Is there a document that describes all of the icons please

This icon indicates creation of a new component, either explicitly by hitting New Component in Assemble panel, or implicitly by selecting Operation option within a command that can generate new bodies (like extrusion, revolve, etc.)

Thanks Hamid. Do you know of any documentation that describes all of the Icons? Best regards. Chris.

Did you ever find documentation of all the timeline icons? I am also looking for the same.

Gawwd, this should be a simple, "Click this link to the list of all the symbols and their meanings". but instead I am searching for 10 minutes the meaning of the 3 diagonal dashed above some timeline icons.

you mean this?

that just means that some geometry produced by that feature is currently selected.  Same as this in the browser means that some entity owned by that node is selected:

Thanks for the update! Yes, that is what I was looking for. Is there, somewhere a list of all the symbols and icons? I have not been able to find such a place. I also spent a long time searching for the constraint icons.

Good question rickbeec.  I'm still looking for a comprehensive list of those timeline icons

The best I can find is here: https://help.autodesk.com/view/fusion360/ENU/?guid=ASM-TIMELINE

but there is no list of icons and definitions. Some icons give a description when you mouse over it but not all do or are clear.

Google search (Gemini) spit this out when I was looking for this answer, but again, not a nice little table with an icon on one side and a description on the other.

Yes, the timeline in Autodesk Fusion 360 has a reference guide for its symbols and functions. The timeline captures the history of your design, and the icons represent the different features and actions you have performed. [1, 2]

Common Fusion 360 timeline icons

Design features
  • Sketch: An icon representing a pencil drawing a shape. Double-clicking this icon takes you into the sketch environment so you can edit it.
  • Extrude: A square with a 3D extrusion arrow pointing out of it. This represents a body that has been extruded from a sketch.
  • Revolve: An icon showing a half-circle revolving around a center axis. This represents a feature created by revolving a sketch profile.
  • Sweep: An icon showing a shape being swept along a path.
  • Loft: An icon representing a lofted feature, which transitions a shape between two or more sketch profiles.
  • Fillet/Chamfer: A square with a rounded or chamfered corner. These icons represent modifications to edges on a 3D body.
  • Hole: An icon that looks like a drill bit.
  • Pattern (Circular/Rectangular): Icons showing a repeated pattern, created with either a circular or rectangular command. [3, 4, 5, 6, 7]
Assembly and components
  • Component: Represented by a cube in the browser and sometimes color-coded in the timeline if the Component Color Swatch is enabled.
  • Joint: An icon representing a joint used to define the motion between two components. [8, 9, 10, 11, 12]
Informational symbols
  • Suppressed Feature: A feature icon that is dimmed or grayed out in the timeline. The feature is temporarily inactive and not displayed in the canvas.
  • Errors/Warnings: A feature icon with a yellow or red background indicates that a feature has a problem and needs to be resolved.
  • Dependent Feature: When you select a feature, small hash marks appear on other features in the timeline that depend on it.
  • Renamed Feature: You can right-click any icon and rename it, which is helpful for keeping track of specific actions in a complex design. [13, 14, 15, 16, 17]
Where to find more information

The most detailed and up-to-date reference is in the Autodesk Knowledge Network and Fusion 360 forums, where users and experts explain the meaning of specific icons.
  • Autodesk Fusion 360 Help: The official documentation is the best place to search for definitions. To find a specific icon, go to the documentation's timeline section and search for the feature you're interested in.
  • Autodesk Community Forums: In the forums, you can search for "timeline icons" or ask the community to identify a symbol you don't recognize.
  • Product Design Online: Websites and blogs like Product Design Online also offer excellent educational content covering Fusion 360 features, including the timeline. [1, 15, 18, 19]

It should be embarrassing to them for the complete lack of help.

The link is 404 as many many links in the help section.

This morning alone I've come across 6 dead links trying to find some information from the main help pages

Either Autodesk simply doesn't care (the most likely reason) or the individual in charge with maintenance for that section is AWOL.
