Sketch problem

When I start a sketch, I select the face I want to sketch on and then that face zooms completely off my screen. The origin is placed in the center of the screen instead.  I have to reposition the view in order to complete my sketch. Why does this happen?

Check your Preferences,

Auto Look at sketch on creation, zooms to fit all that is in the sketch,

a new sketch only has an origin, so it zooms onto the Origin.

Auto Project references to the sketch on Create has a similar effect, but you still have to see the Origin in the Fusion system.

Is that supposed to be checked or unchecked?

I would like to see the face I am going to be sketching on come into view on the canvas regardless of where the origin is.

Then you would turn it off,

which means you do it yourself with, Look at (this face).

If you have turned off "Auto look at sketch" in your preferences, when you start a new sketch you can find the Look At command on the Sketch Palette.

Preference - Look At.jpgLook At.jpg

Thank you! This worked for me. This was much more difficult to try to find an answer for than it should have been. Old documentation videos and ChatGPT still try to point you to the grid menu to adjust this.

I have this same issue, however, if I uncheck Auto look at Sketch, it does not align me to the sketch at all, so I must have that checked. But either way, when i hit Look at Sketch it also zooms me away to the centre of the project. i am getting painful finger joint with constantly having to scroll-zoom out to locate my sketch face, and scroll-zoom back into that.

Can you File>Export your *.f3d file to your local drive and then Attach it here to a Reply?

This isn't unique to a particular model it's how it is and has always been on every project since I started some years ago. if i am zoomed in close enough to a surface so that i can work on it, and i select that surface to sketch on, it warps me to the central point of the project at that zoom level. i then have to scroll out to reorient myself, and scroll back in to the actual surface I selected. It baffles me why it doesn't actually focus on the area I selected. The view IS at the same angle as the surface I selected.

Good to know.  In that case you should have plenty to chose from.
