Critical Issue: Fusion 360 Search Fails to Find Existing Files

Hi Autodesk team,

I’ve been a long-time Fusion 360 subscriber with hundreds of designs stored in the cloud across various projects. I’m now encountering a critical issue that is severely impacting my workflow: the search function fails to return files, even when I enter an exact match of a file name that I can see in the data panel.

I understand (although am frustrated by) the inability to search files with underscores between words, but having files just not show up has cost me a hundred hours this year alone...

Details:

  • File is visible in the data panel under the correct project

  • File name includes the word “camera”

  • Search is set to All Data

  • No filters are active

  • I’ve verified spelling and tried both full and partial match queries

  • The file is not archived and was created directly within Fusion

  • Even after renaming the file, waiting, and re-searching, it still doesn’t appear

  • Web-based Fusion Team search yields inconsistent results as well, but it is MUCH more reliable.

SOMETIMES if I manually find the file, and leave it open for at least 15 minutes, it can be searched again. But it is seemingly random if it will show up next time I need it, months later.

This behavior makes it nearly impossible to manage a growing library of designs. I rely heavily on search for navigating my work, and this issue has reached the point of becoming a serious blocker.

System:

  • MacOS 15.3.2

  • Fusion 2601.1.29 arm64 [Native]

Please advise on how this can be resolved.

Thank you for your time.

Hello @joshua_sniffen ,

Sorry to hear the issue that you are facing for seraching the files.

It will be helpful if you collect the logs and share it so that we can a look into it.

You can collect the logs and share using the steps given here.

Additionally if you can record a video and share it with us that will also be useful.

Thanks.

I have this same issue. It costs me tons of time to manually scroll through the list. Sometimes I can get it to work if I switch to search all data but not always. It is very very frustrating.

Hi @johnnyL4KW5 ,

Please can you collect the logs and share using the steps given here.

Also if you record a video and share that will be helpful.

Additionally is there anything specific or any special characters used in the file name that you are trying to search?

Hi @johnnyL4KW5 @joshua_sniffen @danS8JRH ,

Are you still facing this issue ?

Could you confirm if the result you get when searched in DataPanel and Fusion Web Client are the same.

You can use the below link to login to fusion web client:

https://www.autodesk.com/fusion-team

Once you login,Locate the search icon, at the top right, and click it. Then, enter your search term (file name used for seraching in DataPanel) and press Enter. The results will appear in the main body of the web client.

Data panel on Fusion and Web client both fail to show the item. Name contains alphanumeric and a hyphen. Search is done with alphanumeric only or alphabets only, see videos.

I rarely use the Web Client as it is definitely not my goto when I am looking files/searching for a design as the search is incredibly slow.

Hi @danS8JRH ,

Appreciate you for taking some time out to connect with us and discuss your issue.

As we observed, the search in App Home tab in Fusion 360 offers a more complete search than the Data Panel.
We understand this difference can be confusing and are working to align these search functionalities.

For now, we recommend using the Search bar in Project Pivot on the Home tab for your searches.
For more details, you can check the official documentation here: link

Please feel free to contact anytime for any more questions.

The Data Panel search has never been very good, but it seems to have gotten worse recently to the point of non-functionality.  For us the "-" character in the file name causes the Data Panel search to return no results even when the exact name is searched.  Thanks for posting the instructions for the Home - Project pivot search method, this does return correct results for files with the "-" character, but you really need to fix or delete the data panel search.

Thank you for your feedback regarding the Data Panel search issue with the "-" character and other special characters. We understand the frustration and are actively working to resolve this problem.

We're glad to know that you find the "App Home - Project Pivot Search" method helpful, as it provides accurate and detailed results even for files with hyphens. 😁

Your feedback is very important to help us understand and prioritize our focus on similar issues that are major blockers for users.

Please feel free to reach out anytime if you have any other queries or feedback.
