Incorrect simulation behavior detected in the community.
When using a cutter with a 10 mm long flute, 30 mm shoulder length, if you go to a depth of 20 - there is no collision warning.
The shoulder length is part of the tool shank, it cannot cut.
It should only be used as the maximum depth of cut, and show a stock collision error like the shank does.
But now the simulation uses the shoulder length as the flute length.
It is not right.
Yes, using multiple depth will warn you that the flute is not long enough, but the simulation will not show this ...

File > Export > Save to local folder, return to thread and attach the .f3d file in your reply
this works for any example with the settings above, the file is not important.
In any type of simulation, the "flute length in the simulation" is equal to "tool_shoulderLength"
the tool cuts the workpiece with a shank and the simulation says its ok!
but with correct simulation there should be "flute length in the simulation" = "tool_fluteLength".
Yeah, but in your second image above, we can clearly see that a collision is occuring. Perhaps I'm misunderstanding what you'r running into?
Disregard above comment. I am seeing what you're talking about. Let me investigage. I've not personally run into this, as I use tools with appropriate lengths for the work I do.
in the second image I have changed the parameters of the tool (shoulder length = flute length) to show that the simulation is working correctly in this example.
It works, but the parameter "shoulder length" is lost (does not correspond to the real parameter of tools)
This is the case for an tool with a short flute and a reduced shoulder diameter (to avoid touching the wall)
typical cutting parameters for it:
maximum depth of cut = shoulder length
but the maximum stepdown < flute length
the only problem is simulation ...
("flute length in the simulation" = "tool_shoulderLength")
but should be
("flute length in the simulation" = "tool_fluteLength")
