Possible Bug with Morphed Spiral Multiple passes

I am machining a surface using Morphed Spiral.  I want to do multiple down passes; however the path seems to be generated incorrectly.  

The first operation of both OutsideIn and InsideOut is a plunge to final depth.  (This would be very bad in a hard material)

When OutsideIn is selected the cutter goes to the final depth and the StepDown steps go up from the final surface.

When InsideOut is selected the cutter cuts a track in the middle at the final depth and then goes up and works its way down.

Sent the file.  Shouldn't step down go down, since it is supposed to remove material in multiple levels?  (Also the reason I don't think the plunge to final depth at the beginning is right, probably should plunge to depth of that layer.)

Hi @jim I didn't get your email, could you please try sending it again?

Also, did you play around with different combinations of the "Axial Offset Passes"  and "Order by depth" check-boxes ? I'm guessing the reason for the tool stepping up is the way Fusion sees the model and tries to create a Spiral toolpath on it without being constrained to machining upwards/downwards but only out->in or viceversa. 

Please let me know if you get anywhere with this and try send the project again 🙂

I've attached the file here to make it easier.

 

Order by depth didn't have any effect.  It looks like the initial move on an Inside Out is not a plunge but multiple circles to the final depth.  This still isn't really a desired effect, since we really want to remove the material layer by layer to avoid having the tool holder hit anything or run out of cutting surface.

If you want to remove material layer by layer, why dont you use 3D adaptive then finish with morphed spiral?

That does work; however it's actually pretty inefficient with this shape.  (You can see it in the CAM process above) 

 

The main reason I was using it was because I had changed the offset and shape a little and was modifying the part.  It already was much closer to its final shape than to the stock material.

 

Multiple layers of the morphing spiral would take the surface down extremely quickly.  This would allow me to run the last two processes (minus the drilling since the holes were pre-drilled and used to mount the material)

 

Obviously, there are multiple applications where you may want to use the spiral to clear material.

Okay @jim , I took a look at your project and have passed this on to our development team for investigation. Whilst I can understand this is not desirable behavior,  let's wait and see what is causing it 🙂
