Auto number field should be contextual

It will be really nice if the auto number field should be contextual for that workspace so that increment in the number in a certain workspace should be sequential. Any number of record generated by other workspaces will not any affect the number of record in certain workspace.

Simply use different Sequencer() scheme per workspace. You can built it in the naming WS_NAME or WS_ID and summon it as needed via scripts.

The idea here is to not to rely on the scripting too much and have system generate auto number in the right context.

The Auto Number field is per workspace. But maybe I'm not understanding the problem. Can you maybe give an example?
