Fusion 360 Manage - Part Number Assignment Hangs on Certain Components

Hi,

I've been using the manage extension and successfully assigned part numbers to several assemblies and components. However, I noticed some parts and assemblies were not successful after the initial assignment of part numbers. When I try to assign part numbers specifically to these components the system simply hangs on the part number assignment "checklist". All the components are in the same team and project. Is this a known issue and can I work around it?

Ok, after some experimenting I found one thing that seems to be common between several of the broken parts. There is a plugin called Bommer that added a revision to the part with the comment "Edited attributes [Bommer]" somewhere in the part's history. Maybe this is caused by the third party plugin?

I suspect this won’t get resolved by Friday. So, I’ll put one last option on the table which is to have you guys remove the manage plugin and its associated data from all parts and drawings on this team. Then I can reactivate the manage plugin and start the part numbers from scratch as I haven’t used anything in the manage plugin so far.

My preference is to keep the fusion team comments, part history, and design intact over using the manage plugin. However, fusion teams doesn't allow my team to view drawings anymore so I'm at crossroad with this whole thing. The time commitment I've put into this so far and pending deadlines are the only thing keeping me tied to Autodesk software. We can take this to the end of the week and then I'll have to find another way to get untangled from this system.

Hi @chris.stobart
We did another run to heal your design based on latest informations that were gathered.
Can you give it another try, first to see if designs can be released and second if drawings are still not showing in Fusion Team, would it be possible to save new versions of these?

Thanks

I saved new versions of the some of the problematic drawings and the issue in fusion teams is still around. The designs still can't be released either. However, a couple of the problematic components are no longer hanging when you go to release them individually which is a going in the right direction.

Hi James

I have raised this issue with your technical support teams at least three times. I am still having a major issue with item number assigning. Some parts you just can't assign item number. You have to resave the part then an item number is assigned. Resaving a part as new part resolves the item number  issue but now i have to replace the old part in all the assemblies.

I have also noticed sometime parts and assemblies which has been assigned item number and once were working fine, stops working, i.e the managed extension properties data panel stops showing the data and you get warning sign with a note preparing data>>>>.

I am happy to go through my workflow, please can a tech support reach out to me. I have been struggling with this issue for months.

many thanks

Anil

We also have this issue where it's not possible to assign part number to parts, assemblies or drawings. It happens to ~10% of our files, but haven't seen a red thread...

The sad thing is that it is jeopardizing our future release for a major customer project. Hope for a solution soon, or a fix.

@fredrik.lotto Sorry to hear that 😞 Do you have a support case opened yet? We'd love to get you up and operational.

If not, can you start one either by:

  • Starting a live-chat with a Support Agent in Fusion 360. To do this, in the lower-right corner of Fusion 360 there is an icon where you can initiate a chat,
  • Or by visiting https://knowledge.autodesk.com/contact-support
    • Select Post-Purchase Support
    • Help Using My Product
    • Select Fusion 360 as the product and describe the issue.

Let me know if you need any assistance with this.

Hello,

My Manage plugin has once again stopped working completely and with the original issues that I experienced when I started this thread. Incredibly frustrating as I just renewed the license on a tool that no longer works on any of my parts or assemblies.

Hi,

Tried the clear cache, but still have the issue.

Also tried the Save-as workaround without successful result.

@pierre-yves.monarque I'm afraid that the issue remains for some assemblies.

Hope to see a fix soon.

Fredrik

I have listed below some of the key issues I am facing.

  • Drawings are taking 2 mins to open. I have 300 drawings to update to the latest model, review and save. That will involve nearly 10 hours of waiting time !!
  • After updating the drawing, If you open the same drawing again, DWG number is missing from the drawing.
  • When you try to quick release the drawing to pre-production, it takes a further 2 to 3 mins, if you are lucky, or in most cases, you get the error below, which prevents you from changing the model state.

anil1973_0-1664785305837.jpeg

My Observations.

  • Connection between Fusion 360 and managed extension is hit and miss. When the connection is not established, managed extension properties are not populated, but the drawings open instantly.
  • After any changes to drawings or models, the managed extension database takes ages to update. So, if you open the drawing straight after a change, either the model number or dwg number is missing from the drawing.
  • If you leave the managed extension to update, sometimes overnight, when you reopen the drawing after a day, all the managed extension properties will display.
  • This intermittent connection between the fusion and managed extension and the slow update of the managed extension database makes it impossible for an engineer to update a design and produce the latest drawings within minutes.
  • Based on the above connection issues, the parts number and drawing number are constantly missing from the BOM.

Based on my ongoing sage with Fusion 360 and managed extension for the last 12 months, I feel bitterly disappointed that these issues have not been sorted out.

It is once again that time of year where I try to generate a release for production and am faced with seemingly insurmountable problems with the manage extension. Below is an image of a table that has blanked out manage data in a parts list. The parts that do and don't suffer from this problem have all gone through the same change order for release into production.

chrisstobart_0-1670347232168.png

I suspect the problem is related to name changes of components causing desynchronization between the manage plugin and fusion 360. If I click on assign under the manage tab when in one of the problematic components, then I can see the part number, and the previous part name show up. I was able to prove this by renaming all of my components with a 1 in front of the name, reverting them to the original name, generating a release once more, and repeating what I did. Low and behold a 1 appeared in front of the of the problematic part names in the assign dialog and the problem with the manage data persists.

I'm utterly defeated by this plugin and its time to throw in the towel.
