Fusion 360 Manage - Part Number Assignment Hangs on Certain Components

Hi,

I've been using the manage extension and successfully assigned part numbers to several assemblies and components. However, I noticed some parts and assemblies were not successful after the initial assignment of part numbers. When I try to assign part numbers specifically to these components the system simply hangs on the part number assignment "checklist". All the components are in the same team and project. Is this a known issue and can I work around it?

@chris.stobart please can you upload a screenshot/screencast of what you are seeing. This not a known issue.

It hangs in the attached screen for hours with no progress. If I make a new component and assign a part number then it works immediately. Seems related to existing parts.

Thanks Chris. Please can you raise a support case so we can gather data to look into the cause of this issue.

I haven't received any response back on this support ticket after a second follow up. Hopefully this can be worked out here on the forum as I don't expect a response at this point. Also, I tried to get a call back but their support agents are fully booked for the foreseeable future. Soon this issue will start to affect our internal development process which would be appalling.

It seems that components with this issue had their names changed after the P# assignment from the manage plugin. Likely a bug that doesn't shoot the name update from fusion to the manage plugin properly? Is there a way to nuke everything in the manage extension and restart from scratch? I'm not attached to anything in there at this point and I could just re assign the part numbers.

Alternatively, I could duplicate all the files, erase the old ones and live with all the extra "junk" parts within the manage extension. Not ideal as I would lose the part history.

Any other ideas? @Pauline.vincent

Hi @chris.stobart

Could you try to save a new version of the assembly for which you have issues generating Item numbers and then try again. (You can hide / show a component and save to generate a new version that is identical)

Thanks

Hi @pierre-yves.monarque

I tried this on a symptomatic part and assembly. The process still hangs. However, there is still an issue that some of these part numbers have already been assigned and are in the manage extension. The file name changes seem to have caused the issue where Fusion has the updated name and the manage extension has the old name. When you do this the part seems to lose all of its manage extension information when putting a part list with lifecycle & part number information into a drawing.  Additionally, part names that weren't changed have the same issue and seem to only be affected in certain sub assemblies.

Hi @chris.stobart

We are working on a fix and I will let know here as soon as delivered.

Meanwhile, the only workaround I see is to export / import your assembly, assign new Item numbers to all components and use these for lifecycle management of this assembly going forward. Agreed that this is not ideal...

For the part name mismatch between Fusion Manage and Fusion after renaming in Fusion data panel, this is a know issue. Part names / numbers will update after next manage operation but will be out of synch in between. This will also be fixed promptly.

Sorry for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience.

I would like to avoid the export/import step if possible and that really comes down to timing. Do you happen to roughly know the timelines for the fix?

Hi @chris.stobart

A fix just got deployed to prevent that from happening on new data. (Your Fusion should update to Build 2.0.10356)
We are also working on a fix to heal on open data that has already been affected. It is hard to say when it is going to be out. I will keep you posted but I would say it will probably take at least a week.
Meanwhile we are also investigating possibilities to specifically heal your design.

@pierre-yves.monarque

I have another technical issue. The drawings in fusion teams are no longer being displayed in the web interface. This is happening across multiple accounts, locations, and browsers. If I select recent versions of the drawing then the file will "finish" loading (i.e. the loading screen goes away as if it has finished) and display an empty screen. If I go back to a much older version then the issue goes away. Our manufacturer raised the issue while reviewing the design and is specific to drawings. Would you be able to take a quick look into this? The alternative is producing a bunch of PDFs for our manufacturer to review which is the exact thing I wanted to avoid.

Also, did you make any progress towards healing management plugin issues in my design?

Hi @chris.stobart

We have a healing script ready and are making final verifications before using it on your data.

I hope your designs will be healed by the end of the week.

For the drawing visualization issue, I would have a couple of questions

  • Is it a managed drawing (Item number generated?, Released?)
  • Is it linked to a design for which you are having management issues  (Might be the same root cause)

I could not reproduce drawing visualization issue up until now but will create an incident for investigation to start.
I will keep you posted

It is on some managed drawings and they would have a drawing number.
However, they wouldn't be released and it seems the drawings outside of the
manage plugin are not affected. Yes it is linked to the design where
there are manage plugin issues.

@pierre-yves.monarque

This has become more frustrating with each passing week. Our design review has now been in limbo for several days with our manufacturer and these systems (Fusion teams, Manage plugin) are nothing more than a burden. I'm giving to the end of this week before eliminating all use of these features and going back to emails & PDFs.  If it gets fixed by then, thank you, but if not don't worry about it anymore as I just have to move on at some point.

Hi @chris.stobart,

I totally understand your frustration. We are still working hard on it and are very close to a data fix.

Healing script should run tonight and data should be usable tomorrow.
I'll give a status tomorrow morning.

Thanks for your patience.

Hi @chris.stobart,

Could you try to assign item numbers / release problematic designs and View linked drawings in Fusion Team?
We have healed data that was discovered to be problematic in shared log file but I am not sure it was all there.

Please let know if you are still having issues and we will coordinate with support to gather all problematic data.
Thanks

The issue still remains on the parts/assemblies and it's difficult to tell
where the issues may have been resolved. However, the high level assemblies
still have the issue. Please coordinate support to resolve the remaining
pieces.
