Windows trackpad orbit

I apologize in advance if this information is already listed somewhere, but for the life of me I can't find it.

How do I get my windows pc to orbit with a trackpad?  This is available for Mac but not for windows.  Tried all different combinations of two finger swipe + shift + ctrl, etc.  nothing seems to work.

Please help

Thank you for the reply. The fn lock technique you mentioned doesn't seem to bring up a crosshair or do any of the other things. After pressing fn+esc the fn button lights up like caps lock, so I know it's on. The volume keys and such become inactive for their normal functions, but still no pan or orbit.

So I found a solution that works for me. Using the fn lock, as @Anonymous mentioned, didn't work until I changed the pan/orbit preferences to Inventor in the drop down. Once that is selected, then hit apply, and ok. I didn't need to restart but some may, I have no idea. As soon as this was done, I held f2(with fn lock engaged) and double tap and hold on the track pad, and I could pan. F4 is orbit in the same manner. F3 is zoom(I two finger scroll for this though)

I chose Inventor as it only uses left mouse clicks, and being on a trackpad with no buttons, this is my only option that I'm aware of. I hope this helps others.

Please fix this, it's essential for trackpad-based use on Windows 10.

But is there a hotkey for this?

If not this is still nowhere near as usable in an efficient workflow as
macbook.

I dont know what is going on with AUTODESK. I mean they want more people to subscribe to their new FUSION360 version but basics, like looking at your part easily on a laptop is not even working. I thought, maybe they did not notice that this is such a big problem for us and they did not read this thread yet, but the thread was created in 2016, so thats quite unlikely. None of the solutions suggested worked for me. (Im on the new FrameWork laptop). So I wanted to contact them to inform them about it but as far as i could tell I am not able to contact their support with this account (university/student account). I am quite disappointed to be honest. Maybe someone finds a nice and quick solution soon or they update this problem sometime

Important NECROBUMP!

Omg, how can this still be a problem? I've just switched from mac to pc and this is not okay for this kind of software. People keeps saying "just use a mouse...", and yeah I understand that. I use a spacemouse and an ordinary mouse in my everyday work. But when I'm on the run (as you are with a laptop) this is crucial.

Just map SHIFT and ALT as pan and zoom and call it a day. Can't seriously be that much of a job?

8 years later, still no solution?

I recommend that you use a mouse for CAD operation.

Why? I definitely prefer using the trackpad for CAD on my Mac. On my Windows Laptop, its just not working due to "reasons". Is it that hard?

Are these reasons something we can help with? that are related to FUS

Anyway,  this is just a speculation, but mouse is generally the favourited option, as left hand for pressing hotkeys to initiate stuff while right hand for mouse to do stuff as if right hand is on touchpad, it gets in the way. It's just a generaly quicker workflow in my opinion.

If this is really such a bg issue for you why don't you suggest this to the @fusion devs via the suggestion form and suggest your idea with hotkeys for the touchpad, as FUS doesn't have a massively customisable keyboard besides for basic commands like extrude,ect...

Happy new year regards.!

Ricky

*First sentence was for the mouse issue.
