Why is it so hard to copy and paste?

Hi,

I want to copy a body and paste a duplicate to one side for future use/mods, but I get no paste option available. This seems to be a re-occuring annoyance.  So a) how do I do it?  b) why is something so seemingly obscure so obscure?
