Weight of components

Hi:

I am in the process of designing a structure of steel where the final weight is very critical, and I was wondering if I can assign a certain type of steel to my design and once the design is in progress can Fusion give me the weight of this particular structure ? I know SolidWorks can do that, can I do it using Fusion?

Is there a way of creating a materials library were all the physical properties of that material would be inserted so that Fusion can calculate things like weight and other engineering properties of a particular part created within Fusion?

Please let me know, if it is possible, but if not I do think this would be a great feature to have on Fusion.

Than you

Hi @Anonymous,

Thanks for posting your question in the Forum.

Yes, you can check the particular weight of a component, edit the material and assign a specific density.

Here is a Screencast which shows how you can edit the applied "Physical material" and check the "Mass" of your design.

If you would like to create a custom material library, you would do this through "Modify" -> "Manage Materials" and the "Material Browser" shown in the screenshot here

I hope this information helps.

Thanks,

This is something I use all the time when I am designing. Fusion 360 has a procedure to determine the weight of a model or part, but Solid Works does it faster and easier.
