Variables in parameter equations?

You need to make sure the units match in your parameters. Can you attach a screengrab of what you have.

I thought I did attach a screencast. Not sure why it didn't show up. I'll try again.

I was originally trying to do the pythagorean theorem so the units should have worked out. Looks like I can get it to calculate if i turn off the units but now I can't figure out how to use it as a dimension as it is unit-less.

You need to make your parameter unitless by dividing by -1in, like this. 

To change a unitless number to the units you are working with multiply by 1unit. You can for example have a unitless parameter and mutiply by 5in to convert to inches so if you have a unitless parameter Length and you're adding a new parameter that's in inches you can use Length * 5in.
