Sweep with cube instead of sketch (or workaround)

Hi, I'm trying to create an object that the equivalent of "sweeping" a cube in a straight line along one of its natural axis with a 45 degree rotation. I've tried sweeping the front and back face separately, but I can't sweep the 4 remaining sides as it's perpendicular to the sweep path. Is there another approach to this?

Like @g-andresen  said, without seeing your design it is hard to help you with an answer.

 

Within Fusion 360, choose File > Export and save it on your desktop.
After that upload it to this topic so that one of us can take a look at it.

Hi @Anonymous,

 

Is this where you are after?

Within the Combine feature, I choose Cut.

 

A real solid sweep isn't available within Fusion 360.

This is available within Inventor.

Hi @Marco.Takx , not quite, I would most definitely like to have the sweeps combined as if one cube was used to perform the sweep.

Hi @davebYYPCU , yes, something like that. The idea is that I will subtract that object from a box so that a die (singular of "dice") can slide through it, twisting in a tunnel.

Then it is a normal Sweep, with profile and clearance to allow that.

@TheCADWhisperer It's really close, but as mentioned in another reply, the intention is to invert it, so that the shape is a void, so that when 3D printed, I could have a die (singular of "dice") slide down it, twisting 45 degrees. With a tight tolerance, it would get stuck at the ends

Are you a student?

If so, you can use Autodesk Inventor Professional for this Sweep (cut) Solid.

Thanks @davebYYPCU , although it's not a perfect solution, it's the best option it seems given the available tools in Fusion 360

From your animation, I believe you seek to have one of the edges remain colinear to itself throughout the length of travel. If that is correct, I believe this is the general shape of the geometry you seek.

I did it with a convoluted process of sketches (including capturing the edges of a couple of coils) and surface sweeps.

Hi @chrisplyler , the axis the cube is translated along and rotated about is perpendicular to two of the faces, and parallel to the other 4 faces, so I cannot perform a sweep with them

Is this the kind of thing you're looking for? I've assumed a 20mm cube and given it 0.5mm clearance all round. You'll find I've also modelled the 20mm cube half way down the tunnel.

I'm sure someone else could come up with something more elegant but I think this will do what you want.

Then the animation has sent us down the wrong track.

This will be solved when we get some dimensions.

 

We know the 45 degree bit, 

What size is the dice?

What size is the axis length of material for the twisted tube?

Adding sufficient clearance to the profile, it’s a simple sweep, I was picturing your example with just more wriggle room, no need for the double sweep.

 

Length of the tube drives how much clearance.
