Spline Control points: Is fixing a recommended practice ?

When using Splines (Fit Points or Control Points), is it a recommended practice to fix the unconstrained spline (CPs, Fit points or Tangent handles) to achieve a fully constrained sketch ? (Select Spline and then fix for example).

I normally constrain (dimensions + constraints) only these points and tangent handles where required. This leaves an overall an under constrained spline and sketch.
What is the best practice ?

Thanks,
Jean

I'm a hobbyist, so my experiences are limited. Fixing is a convenient way to fully constrain a spline and with that the sketch. Manually constraining a sketch involves some work:

But by doing this, you could end ab with a more maintainable design. Fixing is faster but if you have to adjust e.g. the length you might have to redefine the curve, too.
