Same depth cut on uneven surface

Hey guys, I’m wondering how I would go about cutting a profile down into an uneven surface of a solid but for it to be the same depth from the surfaces?

I want this profile to be cut into the part 8mm from the different surfaces uniformly

Surface > Create Offset, Set Offset At 8 mm, selecting all those top faces

Extrude to Object, Select Surface Body in the Browser.

you can do it with "extrude to", setting the offset to the depth you want-

FYI-both windows and macs come with screen clipping software preinstalled which will result in better pics to attach than using your phone.
