RESOLVED - Fusion 360 Outage

All - We are experiencing outages that are impacting all data access interactions.  These include but not limited to Open, Save, Upload, Export and Viewing.  We are working actively to correct the problem and will update the Health Dashboard once we have an ETA and once it's been resolved.  I'd suggest working Offline until we have the issue resolved.  Really appreciate your patience!

UPDATE 4:45pm PST - We're getting ready to remove the banner and take users online.  Fusion 360 should automatically return online within the next 20mins, but you can also (save first) and restart Fusion 360 which should take you online manually.  Due to the massive amount of information being transferred as we ramp back up, please tread lightly (i.e. no immediate massive data uploads if possible).

Thanks again for everyone's patience, the Autodesk team appreciates the support and will continue to monitor closely over the next few hours!

@Anonymous are you saying when you launch Fusion 360, you can't get pass the splash screen?

Exactly... which is a very common scenario when the Fusion servers go offline. Sometimes you have to leave it for 10-15 minutes before you can get it past the splash screen.

"Increased Error Rates

Update at 10:33 AM PST: We’re continuing to work to remediate the availability issues for Amazon S3 in US-EAST-1. AWS services and customer applications depending on S3 will continue to experience high error rates as we are actively working to remediate the errors in Amazon S3."

So this indicates, that Fusion 360 & A360 isn't deployed across enough servers geographically. How many geographical locations is the A360 & Fusion 360 deployed over now?

Exactly... and Autodesk currently have no plan to deal with that situation. To do so, or at least have a chance of your data being there on another device, they would need to write a sync client for Fusion 360, that syncs pinned for offline storage data even when Fusion isn't in use on another device, but it is online.

@scottmoyse that's not true  - in addition to our plans around better offline mode and selectively making data available offline, we have plans around having the ability to sync data on your desktop via a sync folder directly to A360 (much like Dropbox's experience). It may take us some time to get there, but it is something we've been actively working towards.

Then I apologise. I just don't see anywhere in that article where it discusses handling syncing of cached files across multiple devices, even if Fusion 360 isn't running.

Earm, nothing happens when I press work offline. Like literally nothing. I do get past the splashscreen, however the file I would like to edit has a spinning circle on top and it would not open. Any suggestions?

No worries - this article summarizes the idea, but the implementation of this is still being hashed out. https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/plm-360/learn-explore/caas/CloudHelp/cloudhelp/ENU/CONNECT/fi...

For those with the 'Work Offline option not doing anything issue'... mine also says Work Offline. I haven't bothered trying to click it, since Fusion is already in Work Offline mode. Clicking it wouldn't change anything anyway. The issue could be considered to be an unclear user interface, it's not immediately obvious that Fusion 360 is in offline mode, and having that option sitting there in the drop down, makes it look like Fusion 360 isn't in Offline mode yet. But inspecting the data panel, clearly shows that it is in offline mode.

Agree @scottmoyse - I'm thinking part of the issue here is a UI that's not doing a good job of showing status when Fusion is automatically taken offline.  The good news is we already have an updated experience for the online/offline toggle in development that I'm hoping should be out in the next several months.

it changes, earlier on it did nothing at all, no checkmarks etc, now after a reload there is a status message talking about the outage and its checked.

some amazon services are beginning to come back to life.

@Anonymous - things are starting to improve with these services so we're finally able to push through the maintenance banner (although the message is slightly innaccurate, as we're not technically updating our services).

so ok, clicking work offline not doing anything is normal then, but how can I edit the file? I literally saved it an hour ago on the same computer, restarted and now I can't open it. This does not make any sense to me!?

@scottmoyse,

> But inspecting the data panel, clearly shows that it is in offline mode.

It's not obvious to me; what's the indicator?

And exactly how do we start to work offline?

Is it a Catch 22 (in our current situation) where you have to be online first and when you go offline it makes a local copy of the file?

[edit]

well I'll be darned, even though it still had the spinning wheel, I was able to open my file, and things seem to work ok

hi jason.tebbe,

not sure why that is happening.  you should absolutely be able to select your cached templates when creating your drawing.  We'll look into improving this.

hope this helps,

All - while Amazon services are mostly restored, we're now slowly testing and ramping back up all of the Autodesk services.  The new ETA for our services to be back fully operational is between 5-6pm PST.
