Just getting started with Fusion and hoping it can help me get through a problem of have with producing a textured surface that would allow me to run a CAM exercise to produce in real time.

Basically:

1) Take a block XYZ with X at side view being Left to Right, Z being bottom to top and Y being the depth going away.

2) Create a wave along the top of the block and constrain it with measurements.

- At this point I'm at a lose to continue.

3) Offset by half one top edge of the wave so that when viewed the wave would peak on one side and be the ebbed directly opposite along the Y axis. ( Hold your finger out straight and rock it within a mid point. This would be the effect of 'feeling' the finished surface as you move your finger along it.)

= Other programs have seen this happen but then they leave a 'ridge' where the wave swaps over, something that isn't natural for a surface when formed by some press method.

 

Hope someone out there has a little time to assist with solving this.

It seems you are asking for a sine wave, but it isn't clear whether or not you want a second one at 90 degrees to the first. 

 

For a single sine wave draw a line for the middle, the plus, and the minus amplitude. Decide how long from crest to crest you want the wave. Divide that length into 4 segments. Use the 3 point arc to draw the sine wave (one above the middle and one below the middle).

Nice try etfrench so it must be my asking that's not correct.

 

Imagine you are holding your index finger straight out....

- lifting your hand up and down as you move left to right will give you the sine wave effect you speak of...

-Start from the left again but this time have your index finger 'seesaw' with the pivot point being the middle of the finger AND whilst doing that again move your hand left to right...

-the sensation you now have of what the top surface would texture to is the result of this last movement..

- as the tip of your finger goes down - consider that it has gone into a trough while the knuckle of the finger has risen which I label the apex

- so ---  while your finger is at right angles to the sides you will have the near side at the apex while to far side is at the trough position then it alternates as you move along.....

- the only likeness to sine wave is that there is one one each side BUT they are offset by 50% so as to oppose each other.....

 

I think I've found a way to show my work so far so hope the attachment works for you

Short answer - No.

 

I'll try to further my sketch to try to make things clearer.

 

I might be 66 but I still hold a full time job so please be patient waiting for some of my replies as I may not be at this terminal during daylight hours

 

OK. So I have extruded the sine wave but there is still another requirement to consider.

 

Whereas it appears to be a wave form that the troughs and apex are aligned is incorrect. I need an apex to align with a trough.

 

Hope this is clearer now?

Here's stage 1

The idea is to have the back edge offset by half way so that an apex in the front would match up to a trough in the back...

When you look at the View cube (upper right corner of the workspace), are you saying you want the front and rear of the model to have a sine wave or do you want the top and bottom of the model to have the same sine wave?  If the latter, do you want the bottom sine wave shifted by half of the top sine wave or to match the top sine wave? If the latter, just use the offset command in the defining sketch.  If it's the former, then use the copy command and then the move command.

 

If you want the front and rear to have a sine wave, then just create a sketch on a plane 90 degrees to the original sketch and copy the sine wave to the new sketch.

Hi again etfrench. Thanks for hanging in there

I do want the sine wave front and back as the pic shows - though not aligned.

That is, as the pic shows front and back aligned going perpendicular to each other, I need, say, the back, to be half way out of alignment causing the look to depict the top of the sine wave to be now aligned with the bottom of the back sine wave.

Due to work commitments I'm a little slow getting back here so please do hang in until we get this sorted.

I'll try your suggestions and re-post the results soonest.

 

NB: The wave surface needs to be XY when looking down onto the wave as I intend to CNC the wave form from an overhead milling machine. TIA

Got a little time so started with one of etfrench suggestions ( I think? )

Struck a problem with sketching though.

Trying to delete some elements and that's just not happening.

Moved some elements but it required a restart as nothing would happen after the first couple of moves.

Here's the sketch - X along left to right

                              Y goes from front to back and

                              Z from bottom to top

Have checked 3D in the sketch properties on the right of the viewport - didn't seem to make a difference....

Nope.... The 3D setting allowed me to put the lines in the back sine to close a face.

Hope you get that some of the entities now need to be removed to allow a complete front face.

After that I need to learn how to morph the faces into one block the distort for final surface texture for milling.

Thanks heaps for that etfrench. I'll learn heaps from it. However - not the result I'm looking for.

 

Sorted my delete problem - suspect my system needs to be upgraded for Fusion360. We'll wait and see about that.

 

This pic shows the two faces which now need to be morphed together to make one unit. Not sure how to do that.

I've also included the file should that be of help in discovering my poor attempt of describing what I'm after.

Basically these two faces simply need to be joined together without moving anything.

I see where you're going wrong.  You need to make a sketch at each end of the model instead of one 3d sketch.  3d sketches can't create closed drawings for extrusion or lofting.
