"Components out of date" Message error?

Various times throught the day, on many different files, I get a warning that tells me two components are out of date. But any files I am working on are not out of date (and the message appears even on files that do not have linked components).

I have attached a screenshot showing the message I recieved today and you can see the component is not out of date and in fact there aren't two components linked, or other files open.

What is this message talking about? Is it possible to see what file it is referring to?

Thanks!

You should be getting the invite today (my boss has to send it).

Thanks!

@ahsan.autodesk

My boss just invited you to the project.

It is very crowded, sorry.

Inside the folder "Fabricated Cases", you'll find folders - those are P/Ns.

Inside each of those folders, you'll see files named "PN CNC Qty #"

It is within those CNC files we see this message (components out of date). It occurs in the CAM workspace very frequently.

Let me know if you need any more information from me or if you want to do a call/screen share session. Thanks!

Hi @ahsan.autodesk,

Just checking up - did you get the invite?

It's been giving me the "out of date" error a lot today, it's probably a good chance to see it in action!

I've been trying to get it in a screencast, but no luck yet.

Hello there,

Thx for the invite. I was able to look at the files yesterday, but unfortunately, couldn't see the issue. The components in most of the files seemed to be up-to-date. I saw one case where the out-of-date icon was showing, but the file was really out-of-date w.r.t its child. I'll need some more time (probably another day) to investigate this.

Thx

I'm very sorry, but I haven't been able to reproduce the issue locally. I'm not saying there is no problem, its just that I haven't been able to see it yet. Can you please help me figure out how to reproduce it? A screencast would be most helpful. Alternatively, please tell me which file to open, and what steps to take to see the problem. Appreciate your help.

I opened several "*CNC QTY *" files. Some of them, such as "J71043 CNC Qty 1 v3" are really out-of-date w.r.t their children. The out-of-date message shows up correctly when we're in the Model workspace. However, I could never get it to show me that message when I switched to the CAM workspace (as you're seeing).

Thx and regards,
Ahsan

@ahsan.autodesk

yes, that was the error - it says "2 components out of date" in the CAM area when nothing is out of date (it even says it on files that have no linked components).

It happens pretty often so I'll try and catch it on Screencast today. Thanks!

Sorry for the long response - this error happens very often but for some reason I couldn't catch it on screencast - until today!

I haven't liked keeping screencast on while working because it takes a LONG TIME to save when screencast is recording for some reason.

Once this error happens, it occurs every few minutes on the file until I close it and reopen.

This file (you should still have access @ahsan.autodesk) is in Fabricated Cases, the the folder REAT041216LA, the file called REAT041216LA CNC Qty 1.

It is still the same message - "2 Components out of date".

I only see it in CAM. I can't seem to reproduce it, it just happens.

Keeping track in the last few days it occured:

- Creating a setup - 3 times

- Setting up contours - 26 times

- In other program (not using Fusion, it grabs focus) - 17 times

So, strangely the best way to see it is to set toolpaths, or keep it running in the background. (Probably running it in the background on contour selection Smiley LOL)

Once it occurs, the message reappears every few minutes until I close/reopen the file. Even if I'm working in a different window (like if Fusion is minimized or behind other windows) it will grab focus to display the error, so it is understandibly annoying.

Thanks a lot for the screencast and the steps to reproduce the issue. This will surely help us debug this issue

Appreciate your help and again, sorry for the inconvenience.

Hello Autumn,

When I open the file "REAT041216LA CNC Qty 1", I can see that it has an external link, but that link is up-to-date. In the testing that I did with that file, I haven't been able to reproduce the issue yet. However, I'll keep plugging at it, and report back later.

Would it be possible for you to try clearing your cache and see if this issue still occurs? You can clear the cache from the Help menu -> "Clear User Cache Data".

Thx for your patience

Hi @ahsan.autodesk

I did clear user cache and haven't seen the message since yesterday, but I've only used the program for about one hour.

I'll be sure and post at the end of the day with either the number of times I have seen it or if I haven't seen it.

Thanks!

Hey @ahsan.autodesk

It's happened four times so far - all four times I was running simulation on the file in

Customer drawings > DTC prototype > Proto CNC

This is the only file I have worked with today.

I attached a screencast showing how it happened. I was just running simulation.

Once again, it still says "2 components" out of date, even though this has only one lined file. It seems like the error never changes, it always says "2".

Hope this helps, thanks!

Hi Autumn,

I had some CAM gurus (dev and QA) help me in testing your workflows, but so far they haven't found out a reproducible case. I've used your data set several times, but have never been able to see the alerts in the CAM workspace. I do see them in the Model space though. Sorry. There is clearly something wrong somewhere. We just haven't been able to put our finger on it yet.

One thing that "might" cause this is if there are multiple users editing the referenced files. Do you know if other people in your team might be creating new versions of the files that you're referencing?

I'm going to make some more code changes to further make sure that we don't show this message in the CAM space. We'll try to get that rolled out in an upcoming release. I'm also thinking of adding a "Do not show me again" button on this message.

Thx and best regards,
Ahsan

Hi @ahsan.autodesk

Yeah, once I heard it's not even supposed to show up in CAM I knew something was funny and it might not be fixable or reproducable. Smiley Tongue I'm just glad I was able to get some screencasts so I knew I wasn't crazy. Smiley Embarassed

Do you think it is something that an uninstall or reinstall might fix? Or should I not attempt that?

Now that I know I can safely ignore it, it doesn't bother me so much - EXCEPT for when it grabs focus when it's behind other windows. That's what really gets me sometimes. Fusion grabs focus for a few things, not just this message, and I know that's in the works to be fixed, so once that happens, I'll just live with the message.

There isn't anyone changing the files - we're a small shop, so the files I work on are exclusively mine. There's only 2 engineers here, and we have our jobs split by type - I handle certain files and he handles the others. Plus, I just can't get over how it is always 2 components - never one or three or anything. Always 2.

I would like a "don't show again" button, but my biggest laugh will come if you add it and it doesn't appear Smiley LOL If the message isn't supposed to be in CAM at all, I can't imagine it behaving with changes either, haha. Programming is hard.

Good luck!

Hi Autumn,

I don't think a reinstall would help fix this issue, but I'm not really certain. So, if you have some free cycles, please give it a try and let me know.

I'll continue to look at this strange issue. So would appreciate if you can continue sharing the project with me a little longer 🙂

You said you always see 2 components out-of-date. In our testing, we've seen one component out-of-date today. So, definitely there's something funny. Hopefully we can get to the bottom of it soon, and then we can laugh about it.

Thx much

Hi @ahsan.autodesk

I will try an uninstall and reinstall today.

I'll keep you shared for as long as possible - my boss forgot we even added you so that can be a looong time.

Yeah, the error (in CAM) always says 2, even when nothing is out of date.

When something IS out of date, it says the correct quantity in the CAD side (with the yellow exclamation marks, get latest message, etc.). IF a message appears on the CAM side in an out of date file, it still only says two (even if there is fifteen components out of date, for example). But when something is really out of date, the message may not appear int he CAM side at all (the yellow exclamation marks still do, on the parts).

So, whether something is out of date or not, the CAM side always says two - if something is out of date, the CAD side says the correct amount. If that makes any sense.

If it still does it after the reinstall, I may post a full-length video showing creation, linking, and the entire setup until the message. Maybe there is something in my workflow that is causing it or has the secret to recreating it.

Hello @ahsan.autodesk

You were right...A reinstall didn't fix the issue.

I did a comlete uninstall (including deleting the folders) and when I logged back in, of course I had to rest my toolbars and everything. Smiley LOL

The first file I opened gave me the error, within just a few minutes. Smiley Indifferent

Screen Shot 2016-04-29 at 1.25.47 PM.png

So, yeah. One more thing to cross off the list Smiley Tongue

One thing that is NEW since I reinstalled - before, clicking the message made it disapper (see my earlier screencasts), but now - It stays as a yellow exlimation point in the corner!! I can open it over and over, click close over and over, and it still stays now - until I resize the window or close the file.

Screen Shot 2016-04-29 at 1.29.44 PM.png

I'll get a screencast of the behavior and attach.

Sorry for the quick double post - here is the video showing the new behavior.

Compare it to the two I posted before - when clicking the message, it would vanish (no warning symbol at all) but now it stays until I close the window or switch working spaces (like switching to model).

Honestly, I'm interested to see what happens next Smiley LOL

In worse news, it is happening much more frequently since I reinstalled so ... yay, I guess? Smiley Very Happy
