Projection with Projection Link disappearing; workes fine without it

I want to project the outlines of a pipe onto a sketch (which is in a different component as the sketch). As the plane for the sketch Im using a Tangent Plane (of the pipe).

Now, when I use Project and hover over the pipe, the outline is projected in red. I click and the outline becomes purple.  So far so good. However, when I click OK (on the Project tool window) the projected outline vanishes and nothing else happens.
When perform the same steps but uncheck the Projection Link box, the projected outline doesnt disappear (=works as expected).

Is the anything I could be doing wrong?

Hi,

Please show the process in a screencast and share the file.

File > export > save as f3d on local drive  > attach it to the post

As for the screencast: the Screencast software from Autodesk seems to no longer be availible. What should I do instead?

Hi,

1. I could see the behaviour and also that it does not occur when I perform the same action earlier in the timeline.
Unfortunately I can't look further for the cause at the moment.

2. there are several freeware tools for WIN and Mac for this purpose.

This is an interesting insight, thank you. At which point in  the timeline does it work for you?

You did not say which type of projection - article or body?

Because you are projecting a side view of a cylinder, it should work as body, but not as article.

Cant access the file for a while, yet.

Might help.....

Sorry, yes, its body. And it does work as expected (purple projection created), but only in the "preview" (while the Project tool dialog is open).  Screenshot 2023-06-06 170914.png

That is unexpected behaviour.  You should not get purple before OK.

Are you sure it has not happened already, and you are doing over, that is not allowed, in this senario, yep Fusion will ignore you.

Project Tool has worked for me all day.

Only thing to check - I don’t think I have ever used Tangent Plane,

see if it works on another type of plane, for the sketch.

Might help.....

Hi,

Up to this point, the projection works.

I have no idea why it doesn't work after that.

After some trying out, I believe it those two operation (marked red in timeline) that mess things up. Right before,  I still  could make a linked projection. IIRC, I moved the Footrest bodies into an own component

I can now confirm that my problem  is caused by moving 2 bodies and their sketches into a new  component.

Is there any way to "properly" move bodies/sketches into new componets other than recreating them?
