Project a component into a design, copy it, and then remove it

I'm trying to reproduce a portion of a complex component in a different design, but I don't want any references or mentions of the original design (or component) in the new design. While I've tried many different approaches to solve this, I've still been unable to create the new design. Ideally, I would be able to follow a workflow similar to below:

1. Create a new design (D_new)

2. Derive from a component (C_old) in a different design (D_old)

3. Create a new component (C_new)

4. Create a new sketch (S_new)

5. Project C_old into the sketch (S_new)

6. Use the projected geometry to create new geometry

7. Remove the projection

8. Remove all traces of C_old and D_old

While I'm able to get through steps 1-6, I'm not able to find a way to perform steps 7 or 8. I can sometime "delete" the old component (C_old), but it still appears in the history. If I was able to create a list of all lines, circles, and other shapes in the old component (C_old) and then easily type those shapes into the new component (C_new) that would also work (even if it is more effort).

Does Fusion 360 provide some way to create a "netlist" for a sketch? If I could just get a list of the individual geometric shapes and then have a way to reproduce that list, it would be enough. However, I've basically run out of ideas trying to get this to work (at least with a clean history).

Instead of Derive, just copy and paste new between open files.  As long as you don't have any links, you can Remove (not Delete) any component.

I finally got it to work using the following steps:

1. Open old design file
2. Open new design file
3. Right click on desired component in the old design file and select "Copy" (not "Move/Copy")
4. In the new design file, ensure the desired parent is active
5. Right click on the desired parent and select "Paste New"
6. Click "OK" in the "Move/Copy" dialog
7. Create new component
8. Hide the copied component
9. Create a sketch for the new component
10. Unhide the copied component
11. Type "p" to create a projection
12. Set the "Selection Filter" option to "Bodies"
13. Uncheck "Projection Link"
14. Select the copied component
15. Click "OK"
16. Activate the copied component's parent
17. Right click on the copied component and select "Remove"
18. Find the copied component in the history (first icon if there are multiple associated icons)
19. Right click on the icon and select "Delete"
20. In the "Deletion Warning" dialog, click "Delete"

Delete is OK as long as you don't get any errors, otherwise use Remove.  Note: If the remove icon is deleted from the file, the removed object will return.
