Can you check in the preferences ( general category near the bottom ) that gestures are enabled. If so, try one thing for me...
In a document where you are trying to orbit with trackpad gestures, put your cursor over the view cube in the upper right and right mouse click to bring up the context menu. No need to select anything. Now see if gestures work. Did that help?
Hi One thing that I had found still not doing right about using Gesture base. Please check preference and before gesture base make sure it is "Fusion360", not "Solidworks", or others.
Everytime I clicked Gesture Base, I had to restart Fusion360. After that, I had found that it always defaulted to either Solid Works or others. I reported that a few updates before but it is still not working right. Check it, it might fix your problem.
It is best not to use gesture base. Just use the cube or the orbit command on the menu bar below. It is better. That is the reason why I always carry a Joy Mouse with my Apple Portable.
Hi, I am happy that the Trackpad is working for you now. I simply could not remember the name of that particular option. It is called "Pan, Orbit Shortcut". "Fusion" should be selected as the default. When you said you changed the profile, was that the option you selected? For some reasons which I had reported a long time ago and never changed maybe as of today since you just reported the problem. When Gesture Based was selected and Fusion restarted, the "Pan, Orbit Shortcut" would be defaulted to "SolidWorks" or sometimes "Inventor". When that happened even your regular two or three button mouse will not work correctly in the "Fusion" fashion. Only in "Solidworks" or "Inventor" fashion.
If that was what happened to your Mac, please beware that if you started to use Fusion at the other Macs, you will have to select "Pan, Orbit Shortcut" again because since it is a cloud service, any change will affect all your Macs. Every time you started another Mac after you selected "Gesture Based" and corrected "Pan Orbit Shortcut" in your original Mac, all your Macs might default to "Solidworks" or "Inventor" when restarted. You will have to check all of them and select "Fusion" and restart again. If not your Mouse or Trackpad will not work correctly with all your Macs.
That is why I did not use Gesture Based at all since it is unstable, and from time to time it will change to "SolidWorks" format automatically. I always thought that we are using Fusion 360 and not "Solidworks" so why should we be given a choice between "Solidworks" , "Fusion" or "Inventor"? Shouldn't we be working with Fusion360's format? That is a " Confusion". I think the team should consider striking that option out. If we liked Fusion360 we work with Fusion360's format. If we decided not to use Fusion 360 then we just switch to "Solidworks" completely, Right? I think this is the correct philosophy.
Well most of the time the team would say that they could not reproduce the symptoms. But sometimes they did reproduce the symptoms that I and others reported and they did fix them. Like the half performance problem when Gesture Based was selected. But the "Pan Orbit Shortcut" still not fixed. But that is fine. They had already done a good job.
Have a great day!
Hi This orbit problem with the Trackpad will happen again and again. That is why I suggested to make sure all your Macs have the same Pan Orbit Shortcut. But this Auto-Change to "Solidworks" will happen again and again. That is why I stopped using Gesture Based Completely. It is not very nice to have a frozen mouse (not just trackpad) in the middle of a design.
Hello,
I suggest to uncheck "Gesture Based" and use the Cube and the Orbit Tools instead. Then you can go on with your designing. This Gesture Based always had problems and it might take them a while to get to this one since Fusion is having quite a bit of problems to be fixed. They had been adding lots of good functions into the programs but problems always came with each updates. This Gesture Based problem might not be that critical. Sometimes you might have to send the Board Manager a PM to get their attention. Commercial designers could not afford to have freezing mice or programs so most of them unchecked Gesture Based. In fact I always use my Wow Pen Joy Mouse with the AIR or MacBook Pro. Or I would use the Cube instead when using Trackpad. I had no problems this way even as of this minute.
I have had trouble for the last several updates with Gestures on the Mac Trackpad.
1. Launch Fusion - No orbit with Trackpad - (Gestures) because they rock
2. Shut down & Re-launch several times until it works
It's a great feature, so I'd like to use it. Everything is setup right on my end. If it wasn't a bug, it wouldn't be intermittent.
Thanks!
Jeff,
Yes we are totally aware of the issue and working to release a fix for it in a future update. Mostly people get this because they launch Fusion, then look at some other window, such as Safari. When Fusion is fully launched it doesn't have "focus".
Please try the following:
1. When you launch Fusion don't look at any other apps.
2. If it happens, minimize Fusion and then bring it back up. Please let us know if these tips don't work for you.
Thanks,
Oh man, really? I am doing a free trial of Fusion 360 and trying to go back and forth on a youtube tutorial. Not using any other apps once I launch Fusion 360 would be great for my focus, but not very realistic in practice.
@Anonymous Welcome to the Fusion 360 community.
As you can see, this issue is quite old. As far as I know it's resolved and should no longer be a problem.
So can you help me understand what's going on with your experience? Please describe the issues you are seeing, and let me know what kind of hardware you are using. If a video would help, Autodesk Screencast is a great choice because it shows the mouse clicks.
Thanks!
Oh, good. I couldn't get orbit to work at all when I first started with Fusion 360. I updated my Mac Os software and now it works, so maybe that was it. Glad this is just old news and it will work OK going back and forth between programs. Thanks for the fast response.
No problem. If you do find any issues, feel free to start a new thread on the Support page. And if you have any more questions, please just let me know. We're always glad to help!
I'm also getting this issue now. It's always worked, still not a great experience, but it worked. Then as I was switching between active components Fusion got a little glitchy for a moment and gave me the spinning beach ball. Once the beach ball was gone, two finger drag was no longer orbiting, and instead just zooming. I hit save and restarted Fusion. When it reopened, I was disconnected to WiFi and it gave me complaints about having unresolved component links and if I saved now they would be unresolved forever, so I closed, connected to WiFi, restarted and the unresolved components thing was gone, but it was still acting a little strange when navigating between active components. I restarted my Macbook Pro 15" 2015 quad core, opened Fusion, opened my project, it worked fine, went activated the component I want to work on, started editing a sketch, looked at Firefox for a moment, came back and gesture based navigation is not working again.
Multiple computer reboots have not fixed the issue and it persists across projects now. It's extremely frustrating.
If you don't have time to fix this properly, could we please get good keyboard shortcuts to quickly switch between orbit and pan tool?
When you switch to Firefox and back, does your dock cover the Fusion timeline? And when you click the Fusion icon is popped up over the timeline?
Although that thing with the dock does happen sometimes, that hasn't happened on any of the occasions where the gesture based navigation has stopped working.
The issues seems to have stabilised a bit since yesterday, but it has still happened once today. Computer reboot fixed it for now. I don't know how to recreate it either, I THINK I was changing active components when it happened today, but I'm not too sure.
