No target body found when trying to cut from a sketch inside a body

Hi guys!

I'm trying to create an interior nut holder in this design:

http://a360.co/1IzAsja

Check  the circle in Sketch8.

I'm trying to do a symmetric cut extrusion and I get the error in the title.

There is a hack which kinda works, as in create the extrusion as new body and then use that as a substraction tool but I cannot use "Extrude to" an edge with this method.

If I start the sketch on a plane from the object I can cut inside it but I need to create the cut fully enclosed.

Please let me know if this is a bug or it's a known limitation.

Thank you very much!

Hi,

I guess I'm a little confused as to what you are asking. I'm able to click the circle (Sketch8) and use the extrude command to make a cut, but I'm unsure of where you are trying to cut to. If you could just clarify a little bit more for me, I'd be more than happy to try and help!

I cannot do that, I cannot select the circle while the body is still visible.

I have to hide it then I can select the circle.

Then if I try to make a cut I get the error.

Are we using the same version? I'm on 2.0.1574.

I've played with it a little and found out that I can only select the circle from the bottom (through the existing hole).

I cannot select it from the top or sides.

If I select it like this it works.

However, if I hide the body before selecting the circle I get this error.

That's strange. When I hide the body and make the cut, I don't seem to get an error. Can you please send a screencast of what is happening to you? You can download screencast from the link below. I posted a picture below showing what mine ended up looking like (just in case this isn't what you are trying to accomplish).

Hi @FreezeS,

Before you try actually cutting it, make sure you make the body visible again.

Here's a screencast of how I made the cut.

Dear James,

Thank you very much for the support, it works the way you did it.

Is this the normal way to do it or this will be fixed in future versions?

There's actually another (more efficient) way to do this that @jeff.strater just showed me. If you hold the left mouse button (while hovering off the face with the sketch embedded in it) it will bring up the Select Other menu. This menu is really helpful for selecting things that may be hidden or obscured, as well as for other operations. Jeff went ahead and made a screencast showing how to use the Select Other menu to select your circular sketch.

Im glad this helped you!
