No OPEN option on uploaded file in Project

Yesterday afternoon I downloaded the free "hobbyist" version of Fusion 360 and I understand that it will open and allow me to work on Inventor part and assembly models.  I have old part and assembly models made in Inventor 2011 and 2015 that I would like to have access to, to use them in the next stage of my hobby work.

I am supposed to be able to either open directly from my hard drive or upload to a Project File and then pick the part with the right button on my mouse and then pick OPEN.  I tried yesterday and again today with no success.

I cannot open directly from my hard drive as one source suggests.  I cannot even see the files, they are hidden from view.

Yesterday I attempted to upload the part file but could not see it so I had to drag and drop.  Today I can see it in the 360 upload window to pick it to upload.  So I can upload the file to a Project I created but I do not get an OPEN option (see "1" and "2" attached jpg images) to allow me access to the file to work on it.

Could someone please explain to an "old" guy how to do this.

Thank you.

Alan

ALSO

I am using Windows 7 Professional SP1

and I noticed the uploaded file is an .IPT extension per the image in the project.  shouldn't it have been converted to a .f3d extension when uploaded?

Just did some testing myself, what version Inventor ipt are you using?

Can you upload the file (Zip it)?

The YouTube video I watched showed pack and go or zipping a complete package of files along with assemblies to copy them to another file for uploading.  Then unzip them. The upload them and identify the top level or main assembly file in the process of uploading.

I am not sure what uploading a single file will accomplish but I'll give it a go right now.

I'm just wondering if the older .IPT will work in fusion as I know backwards compatibility isnt always a thing.

If that doesn't work, I wonder if opening and saving in IV2019 will do anything.

I have some Inventor 2015 part files and I will find one and try it shortly.

I do not have the Inventor 2019 program so cannot test any

I have Inventor LT 2020 trial version for the next couple of weeks but Fusion 360 is said to not be compatible with it so testing with it is not possible.

Just uploaded a version 2015 IPT file (see attached JPEG image).

Once again it has not been converted to a fusion file if that is supposed to happen, and I have no option to open it.

What happens if you double click on the parts?

if I double click with the left button on the mouse it opens myhub.autodesk360.com

On the YouTube video I watched it should open in Fusion 360 program.

When does it convert to the fusion part extension file type?  After opened in Fusion 360 and then saved?

I should mention I have successfully started two new designs (named Test and Test 2), sketched, extruded... and saved.  They both gave me an OPEN option to pick and it worked both times.

darn it.

I meant if I double click with the right button.  Nothing happens when double clicked with the left button

Sorry for that.

I think I am posting in the wrong forum

I think A360 is the app

I think I should be in the Fusion 360 forum.

right?

I have the same issue with Rhino .3dm files, friend of mine can upload and open them fine on his (both of us have non commercial licenses).

Just realised @4alanoneill,

I'll get this moved over to F360 forum

Maybe your friends haven't updated to the latest version yet.
The import is now very limited.

Thanks for the info @wersy

@4alanoneill I'd try running an inventor demo and updating the files.

I believe the free versions of Fusion no longer translate Inventor files. Some have suggested uploading to Grab Cad and import the file as a STEP.

That's the best solution for me right now.
But what do we do after 30 days?
