I saw the new "automated modeling" feature in a youtube video, but I don't have an icon for it in the design workspace. I checked and my client is on the latest version. I looked in preferences funder preview features and I don't see it listed there either. Is this a subscription only thing now?

As you say, automation is a feature available to those with subscriptions.

In this thread they says its available to people with free accounts. I'm wondering if that's been changed and they didn't say anything or what.

In the Design Workspace of Fusion 360, type "S" on the keyboard to bring up the Shortcut menu.  At the bottom of this dialog box type Automated Modeling and see if it comes up in the search.  If so, you can add it to the Shortcut menu but at least it proves it is installed.  I personally do not believe you will find it available in a Fusion 360 Personal License Account.

I do not know exactly what the official current handling is.

For reference, I asked my son to try it on his student account, but it does not appear on his account.
