Moving a Body/Component to a Sketch Point?

Alright, I'm guessing there's a super simple way to do what I'm trying to do, but I can't seem to find it...

Say I've drawn some geometry which is meant to represent a latch. It's two parts of a surface mount latch. My idea is to have this file saved, and any time I need to use it, I can import it into a drawing, drag it around and paste it where I need, then use a 'combine' to cut away the sections where the latch would sit. Does that make sense?

My problem is this: Say I've created two doors that I want to latch together. I want to be able to draw a sketch, then use a 'point to point' move, to move the latch to exactly where I want. Then use a 'combine, cut.' But I can't seem to use a point to point move on this geometry - it won't snap to a point that I create. I've attached an F3d of a test drawing. I would like to be able to drag the latch so that the split in the latch lines up with the split between Board 1 and Board 2, preferably snapping from a point on the latch, to the sketch line I've drawn crossing the two boards. Does that make sense?

Hopefully someone can tell me the simplest way to accomplish what I want (even if it's a totally different method then what I've been trying to do - maybe I'm completely on the wrong path.

Thanks in advance,,,

The Point to point move should work, unless there are joints in place to prevent it,

After review of your file, it could be that Joints are interferring, or within move command you are not selecting Component move,

Do you know about Rule No. 1 - sketches are not inside their components, so that may have an influence too.

might help

I can get it to move, point to point, to an actual piece of 3d stuff, like say the center of a hole or the corner of a block or something. I can't seem to find a way to move it to a point that is defined by sketches. I kind of need the pieces joined together via joints, but maybe I'll play around breaking the joints to see if it helps.

Is there a way to move a component to two intersecting lines of a sketch?

Hmm - I was able to snap it to the end of a sketched line, instead of two intersecting sketch lines. That's good enough for me:) Thanks for the suggestion:)

Just a quick suggestion, You can add a point at the intersection point of 2 lines with the point command, and then snap to that 🙂
