Manipulating pipes

Hello,

I'm not quite sure how to phrase my question, but I'm looking to create a pipe shape that is curved. I can create that shape, but it's restricted to a specific plane. I need this pipe to be curved on two axises. I've attached a picture of the sad, lonely pipe end and the corresponding, sad, lonely fitting end.

How can I manipulate this pipe in order to attach to both of the fittings?

You need a 3D sketch for this.

The basic idea is:  start a sketch, turn on 3D sketching.  This allows you to snap to geometry that is not in the sketch plane.  Then, create a spline curve that starts and ends on your fittings.  The intermediate points can be on the sketch plane.  Then, after the basic curve is created, use Move to move the intermediate points around to get the shape you want.  Then, create your pipe.

Here is a screencast showing a simple case.  You should be able to extrapolate from there to almost any 3D spline:

Hope this helps,

Jeff
