making a twist drill with fusion 360

Hello 🙂

Thank you all in advance for listening.

I am just starting with Fusion 360.   I have used Inventor.

To practice I am using Curtis Waguespack's 24 practice drawings made for Inventor.

Mostly it is straight forward and easy.   Except the drill bit in sheet 11

I can not find out how to get the cut profiles to work.

I have tried a coil, sweep etc but nothing.

I have included the drawing.

Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Ian,

I think you might be able to accomplish the "Cut Profile" by using the "Section View" tool in the Drawings work-space. This tool will allow you to select a view of Drill bit in the Drawings work-space, you then can slice into the Drill bit to display a Section View from the points you sliced into the view. (Can be more than 2 points)

I think that in order to create the view in the middle of your PDF, I would try out using "Section view" on the view off the drill bit that is on the very left side (Middle), after you place the new Section View change its View Scale to something larger so it looks more like the PDF.

I attached a screenshot of what the section view toolbar button looks like, and another screenshot of where I would draw the section view line to create that center cut view (Marked in red)

You may want to prove a bit more detail as to what the problem is.

Are you having a problem creating the 3D model, or the technical drawing based on the 3D model ?

So I've made an attempt at modeling this according to the PDF you provided and I've come close, but I don't think it 100% reflects the way it is supposed to look like and have asked a question in respect to that in another thread.

Due to the serious limitations of the coil tool this is not trivial to do in Fusion 360. I might make a screencast later.

Thank you all for the energy and effort to help me to model a drill bit in Fusion 360.

Fusion 360 is a great program but I think that if there is any modeling to be done using the Coil tool I may have to revert back to Inventor.
